I made this for each year 11 to take home - how lovely to have heard some parents have stuck it up on the fridge already.
In the run up to exams - what sorts of things are you doing to prepare your year 11s/keep them motivated?
Just had a phone call from an accident helpline, she asked if I was in accident. So I said yes. She asked for details so I said ‘well, I got hit by an Asda trolley, died and I’m a ghost now. Wooooo’ she said ‘I’m sorry to hear that, I’ll take you off the list. Goodbye.’
Who wants their MIND BLOWN? 🤯

About 2 years ago I gave a dress away. I LOVED it but gained too much weight. I often think about that dress.
On Friday, my friend gave me a dress she got from Vinted but didn’t fit.
It’s THE dress. In the SAME size. And it fits!
Fate takes the form of a polka dot dress 🥹🥰
I’ve been making these supercurricular task sheets for each unit of work we’re teaching across each key stage.
Some students have been super impressive and already finished this half-term’s one!
#supercurricular

This week, the one black student in my class said she was so pleased to have an Asian teacher, because I was able to express what racism was like when she didn’t have the confidence to.
Having a BAME teacher in a predominantly white school is so important.
🚨 Free resource alert!🚨
6 Romeo and Juliet character homework sheets.
I hope this is useful to someone! (Would also be ideal as cover 👀)
Download here:
I'm making a tonne of these to go as fortnightly homework tasks for my year 10s. It will mirror the type of thinking that is activated in Language Paper 1 also.
I'll only ask them to plan out the structure response, but write one paragraph for it.
Here’s a little myth bust:
School doesn’t ‘wind down’ when year 11s leave. In fact, it goes into 6th gear and you try to fit months’ work in over 6-7 weeks.

Just ordered some school pens and got thinking about pen choice.
(N.B. This thread is a joke)
Elite pen user. Probably a Gemini. Visualiser skills are banging, notes are impeccable, everyone comments on handwriting. Students can actually read the writing.
I’m so pleased to have accepted the role of Head of Faculty at a local high school.
I start at Easter 😬
Any advice for newly appointed Head of English and Media gratefully received! 🤓
Thanks
@SPryke2
for the ‘Big questions’ - I adapted this for my AICs lesson, and added the AOs. We spent 3 mins discussing as a class, and 3 mins write up time. Then we highlighted the AOs. Students really enjoyed it!

Happy results days!
Here's a dropbox link to exam ready packs I made for Year 11:
These include: Timeline and quotations, empty quotation banks and exam question plans.
Also included my blog on how I used this:

You know how really young kids think that their teachers live and sleep at school? It turns out exam boards also think this.

Day two of resource sharing! Here’s a booklet I made for a revision session last year. It worked really well for a 100 minute session.
Always welcome feedback 🥰
It makes me a bit sad that other colleagues can’t just acknowledge that one subject (which is actually two) have more for their markload than other subjects. We’re not suggesting your job isn’t hard, it’s just that we have more to mark/teach in less time.
I’m so overwhelmed with the amount I have to do today. In my desperation to find a resource, I actually PAID for one today.
Never, ever, again.
- I don’t agree with the selling of resources
- The quality was so poor, I ended up just making it myself properly.
Lesson learned.
🚨 Free Power and Conflict Exam Qs and planning grids 🚨
I've collated the past exam questions (labelled) and made up questions (also labelled) for poems that haven't yet been used.

My year 11s have struggled a bit with analysing AICs quotations. We’ve moved onto language now but I want to make sure that they keep pulling apart AICs quotations so have made a bank of 5 minute literature explosions.
Will upload to Dropbox and share a link if useful!
Every Weds I teach a 100min lesson after lunch, have a 6min break (to drive to sixth form), and teach for 75 mins. Each week I arrive to a coffee made by a sixth former. Teenagers can be so beautifully kind 🥺🥺
Happy half term! I'll be sharing resources every day - use/edit/bin please 🙏
@teamenglish
Up first - a supercurricular sheet I've made for Y10 this coming half term (special thanks to
@DoWise
- great collection of wider reading on your site!)
As a trainee and an ECT you get a mentor - loads of feedback and opportunities to improve. But when you move into TLRs you lose mentors, and very rarely get coached. I think any new TLR should receive a coach.
After speaking to a student on the phone, my mum wanted to know who it was. I said a student, and she asked how old. I said 18.
Her response: *GASP!* are you allowed to talk to 18 year old boys on the phone?
Mum, I’m their head of year. 🙄
March 8th is always a tough day for me as it’s Dad’s death anniversary. I already feel dread.
Just a note to anyone experiencing loss. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been, your sadness is still valid.
Corkers from today which make me pleased I’m a teacher:
1. Miss do you enjoy being a teacher? I hate school so much that I think if I was a teacher I’d cry every day. I know I’m a kid, but I hate kids.
Me: I love kids!
Student: then you probably need some therapy.
They wont admit it, but judging by their engagement and curiosity last week, my year 11s loved doing this.
It’s really helped them understand how to use key words.
I’m currently making a pack for An Inspector Calls and will share soon!
Is it wrong that I like my own company so much? So much so that I tend to sit by myself at lunch, go for lone walks, and quite like going for a coffee all by myself. My life is so so full of people that I really crave quietness.
⏰Belated day 5/final day of FREE resources🚨
Whilst I have a spare minute in my weekend, I thought I’d upload this.
Booklet: A Christmas Carol and the message shared through the spirits 👻
Use/edit/bin.
Have a great weekend ☺️

Will the government reinstate 5pm lockdown briefings? If so, could Fatima in Cyber give them some technical help - clickers/graph axes etc? Please RT so Fatima gets this message xx
@heymrshallahan
I’ve experienced bullying at work, and I think sometimes it gets swept under the carpet if the bully has a louder voice/higher position than you.
English teachers. You know when we tell students the worst ending to a story is ‘and then I woke up and it was all a dream’? I really think in this situation, waking up and it all being a horrible nightmare might be the best ending.

Made these last year, but no longer teach AQA, so these will just go to waste (inspired by Stuart Pryke)
Unfortunately they’re all PDF and have my school logo on! Can’t find originals! Sorry!

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating!
This is the first time in a decade I’ve been given the time off work to celebrate, and I am soooo looking forward to cuddles with my babies 🥰
Being a teacher is emotionally tough. Stopped at a zebra crossing whilst a student I teach spotted me & decided to do star jumps - with a queue behind me, & me in hysterics. Within minutes I found out an ex student had passed away. Kids are so so special. Special prayers tonight.
Based on
@shadylady222
'What, How, Why' method, I have created some extract analysis starter slides. I am trialling them with Y11 as starters (annotation)+ follow up homework will be to write the essay + DIRT the next lesson as a starter. Feel free to use!
@loisoliviaj
Well done Lois. Btw - what an impressive set of GCSEs! I’d have been proud to be your teacher! In fact, I am proud of you, anyway. I can’t believe a grown woman is trying to pick a fight with you. Keep fighting the good fight, lovely. X P.S. You are beautiful x
**IMPRESSIVE YOUNG WOMAN ALERT**
My (not so) little niece is off to study Medicine in September! We are so incredibly proud of her brilliant results and I can’t wait to call her about all of my ailments 🦄
Just polishing up my supercurricular booklet for KS4 students: An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol and Romeo and Juliet. I need to add a Jekyll and Hyde one for year 10, and then crack on with KS3.
That’s one tick on my to-do list!
If you know you’ll know...
I was 23 going on 24 when I was challenged by my year 11 class* to learn all the words to Gangsta’s Paradise. AND I DID IT. My drive home was spent being pleased I still know the lyrics.
*I was teaching them Charge of the Light Brigade (😢)
When I was a little girl I watched Matilda and instantly decided to become Miss Honey…
…almost a decade of Sunday-before-school-dread and Miss Honey has a lot to answer for.
They didn’t say a word.
I’m glad I showed my babies that they have a right to walk this earth the same as others.
When my baby niece asks when her first racist incident was, I’ll tell her she was 15 months old, was brave and laughed all the way home.
I have rage sweat 🙃
Someone at work saw me working in the staffroom and said they couldn’t believe how much I talked to myself. I’ve just had a wonderful conversation with myself in the car and made myself laugh. I’m not the only one, surely?
