My first clue is the disheveled look of bark. I step up close & study the upper limbs. The “decorative” bands are not by design. More the telling signs of terminal decline. The haemorrhaging will stain the lower trunk an apocalyptic glow. Death is soon guaranteed. #tasmania

70% of the planet is covered by water but only 1% is available as fresh water. Not many rivers left unpolluted, dammed, engineered or un- contaminated. The Franklin River a few kms downstream from it’s headwaters on the central Plateau. One of the last of its kind. #tasmania

Richea pandanifolia (Pandani) a Gondwana relic is endemic to Tasmania, it’s also the tallest flowering Heath plant in the world reaching up to 12m in height. It’s in flower now. Here’s a few I came across today. #Tasmania

200kms apart 2 different species of Eucs literally tear themselves apart in rapid fashion. Ever seen this before? Neither have I. But it’s real & it’s our everyday reality. E, delegatensis & E ,obliqua displaying the consequences of ecological overreach. Shit. #tasmania

Please avoid purchasing Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon. Richard Flanagan’s book ‘Toxic’ is recommended reading. If Scandinavian countries can farm Salmon in ponds on land then why can’t we? Thanks for reading. #Tasmania Lutruwita

Recently I had the privilege of working beneath this magnificent beast for near 2yrs & thought it the most photogenic of any E,regnans I came across. 74m high with classical buttressing & symmetry it was featured in the film ‘The Nightingale’ #thicktrunktuesday #Tasmania

Deep into the Rainforest along this old track I found it amongst the Mrytle & leatherwood. Reaching near 30m this strapping Huon Pine took my breath away. Life expectancy is around 2,000+ yrs & this one has another 500-800 yrs before retirement. #thicktrunktuesday #Tasmania
