In honour of my 1000th tweet, I thought I'd share my #journey to medical #cannabis . When I was an infant, doctors discovered I had an arachnoid cyst. After removing it once (14m old), it grew back. They then placed a shunt in my head (17m old) to drain it, which remains. 1/

People who think disabled people automatically get accommodated are going to be utterly shocked when they become disabled and require accommodations. Even with an abundance of evidence, workplaces work harder to not accommodate than they would have to if they were accommodating.

A few weeks ago my YWCA buildings A/C went out. For 2 full weeks it was unbearably hot. Over 30°C. They kept calling it an "inconvenience." Reminder my building is for poor, disabled & elderly women, AKA *vulnerable* folks. ....My next door neighbor was found dead in her appt.

Glasses are a disability accomodation. Imagine the way people speak on workplace/educational accommodations, but about glasses: "Wearing glasses is cheating!" "Why should you be rewarded with special privileges?" "If you have glasses, I'd need to give everyone else some!"

Hospitals are for sick and disabled people. By removing mask mandates from hospitals, they are making hospitals dangerous for the very people they are built for. This will harm the most vulnerable in a space where they are at their most vulnerable.

Statistics Canada altering the national death stats by putting people who died from MAID's cause of death as the patient's disability/illness instead of as MAID scares me because it's an obvious way of hiding the fact that MAID has become a leading cause of death & is growing.

@Tefrin In the database, the underlying cause of death is defined as the disease or injury that initiated the train of morbid events leading directly to death. As such, MAID deaths are coded to the underlying condition for which MAID was requested. For more info:

Like for instance, one of my accommodations that I required (got doctors' notes for and everything) was preferred seating. This is due to me not being able to focus/me not being able to use peripheral vision without triggering a migraine. Not only did they refuse, they mocked.

Non-disabled people who have no idea what police trauma and violence does to a person commenting: "well who DO we call if someone is getting violent if not police?" Here's a wild idea: you don't call anyone. You let the person cool off or speak. By doing this, you de-escalate.

@TorontoStar Now do a story on disabled Canadians who got absolutely nothing @TorontoStar It shows ableism and classism that you choose to do stories like this but leave out actual news worthy content that needs to be heard.

100 days until MAID for mental illness as a sole condition is available in Canada. In those 100 days, there's no plan to improve legislated poverty "supports," or the mental health system. There is no plan to improve housing for those in poverty. No plan to improve healthcare.

A reminder that Canada has STILL not given any emergency support to disabled Canadians in poverty. We are at the highest risk in this pandemic. We are also some of the poorest citizens. 4 months into the crisis, still no help. #whyCanada #Disability #cdnpoli #NoDisabilityLens

If you are in a position where it is possible to avoid these stores/brands, think about doing so. The raise employees received in the pandemic is now over, but the pandemic is far from. The owner of Loblaws, Galen Weston Jr, has a net-worth of 7.6 billion #BoycottLoblaws

For immunocompromised folks, when we see you not wearing a mask (with no medical reason not to) we know that you do not care about our or anyone else's wellbeing. It is a selfish act. Behaving selfishly is ruthless in a pandemic. Don't be selfish #WearADamnMask #COVID19 #Toronto

When Canada thought people were going to go broke in the pandemic, they came up with CERB quickly so no one would suffer. When Canada *knows* disabled people are in legislated poverty, they remove the safeguards surrounding #MAID without doing anything to improve disabled lives.

"Do we need to tie a rope around the desk at the front of the class to ensure it is reserved for you?" (Sarcasm) This was said to my mother and I in one of many meetings with the ableist institution I'm referring to. We said, "yes, if that's what it takes." Never got it. 🤷‍♀️

@Imani_Barbarin Thank you for picking up on this Imani. Disabled people in Canada have been ringing the alarm about Bill C7 (2021) removing all safeguards to MAID before removing legislated poverty, providing access to housing or care. Politicians, media and society ignored those calls.

People who tell disabled people to "call the police" when we experience or witness abuse have no idea how the police think of disabled people. Erin called the police before and they told her super to ignore reports from her. Police help aid the system in their eugenics.

Canada is exclusively using MAID on disabled people. On top of that, Canada is keeping disabled people in legislated poverty and forced suffering. The legislated poverty and forced suffering push the notion that death is better. That's not inclusive, that's coercive eugenics.

Health Canada is now asking for "Indigenous perspectives" on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) They're looking for a "culturally appropriate" approach to MAID when it has been proven coercive to those most vulnerable. Eugenics isn't "appropriate."

When disabled people first spoke about the coercion with MAID, we were gaslit and viewed as using hyperbole. Now "experts" are publically admitting it's the "ethical" solution to people's suffering under socio-economic circumstances. Moving that goal post reveals the eugenics
