This is not a problem that should be blamed on children or families, or teachers. We are clearly getting it fundamentally wrong for HUGE numbers of young people who will create our future. I wonder what we are creating here? #stopthefines Howabout listening instead?

Home education is up 20% from 92k to 111k in the last 12 months according to govt data published today. More children leaving education. More exclusions. More severely absent children. We need to rethink education.

So often families (usually Mothers) fight to keep support and services use inappropriate and traumatic ways of NOT providing what is needed and has been legally agreed. Ella was so scared & not listened to. It should have been about what she needs. #parentblame

But there is a wider discussion to be had about equality vs equity. Equality means everyone is treated the same irrespective of what they need. Equity means everyone is enabled to have the same access. What we choose, says something about what we value. (4)

Extra time is not always helpful. It is a bit of a straw man argument. Easily quantifiable in terms of who gets it and who doesn’t and of course there are questions around the difference in applications for exam accommodations here between public and state schools (3)
