Beverly Byron—one of only 11 women elected to represent Maryland in Congress—was a resolute and powerful advocate for our state who paved the way for countless others. I feel privileged to have briefly met her on the campaign trail and to follow her footsteps by serving on the @HASCDemocrats and the Board of Visitors of the @NavalAcademy. We are all indebted to her life of public service, and my heart goes out to her family during this difficult time.

Late in 2017, an intrepid college freshman emailed me out of the blue offering to volunteer for my first Senate campaign. Ever since that day, I’ve been more fortunate than I deserve to have had Dylan Behler leading my campaigns, serving the people of District 30 in our Senate office, and - most importantly - as my friend. Tomorrow he will be sworn in as Delegate for District 30A and begin a new, and much deserved, journey in public service. In case you haven’t met Dylan, allow me to introduce you: He has an unmatched work ethic. He has an incredibly big heart. He is a problem solver who knows how to deliver for our community’s priorities. He knows he is in this position to serve because of the opportunities he received - and is ready to fight for those same opportunities and more for everyone in Maryland. He is uniquely positioned to champion key policy priorities like public education, a healthy Chesapeake Bay, and our small business community. I’m sorry that I will be in Washington tomorrow and unable to be there to see my friend sworn in to the same chamber where Speaker Mike Busch’s portrait - and legacy - will be watching over him. But boy, am I proud. Congratulations, Delegate Dylan Behler!
