Important to keep in mind that this was an association study so we may not be able to extrapolate - would need other approaches.

@Ella_Maru @MinLeeYang @trisha_gupte @xiangzhoulab @uk_biobank Great question- there are already known clinical differences, we defined several sex-biased relationships to cardiovascular diseases that we aim to prevent by managing hypertension; further studies are needed to define risks/outcomes and implications for hypertension intervention

@MinLeeYang @trisha_gupte @xiangzhoulab @uk_biobank Female-specific pulse pressure-associated loci were (1) enriched for acetylated histone H3 Lys27 modifications in arteries (which would “turn on” certain genes) and (2) associated with FMD, with the PP&FMD overlap suggesting shared mechanisms of arterial fibrosis/stiffness (7/7)

@MinLeeYang @trisha_gupte @xiangzhoulab @uk_biobank Female-specific associations of DBP & PP were at chr13 COL4A1/2 overlap known SCAD associations; there was a signal for FMD too. COL4A1 and COL4A2 are collagen genes in the arterial wall basement membrane, involved in brain small vessel diseases and other diseases. (4/7)
