Kind of a no-brainer but maybe worth repeating: When you view God as a white man, it makes it easier to unwittingly (or intentionally) erase the imago Dei of those you oppress: i.e., people of color, women, immigrants seeking asylum whose children you rip out of their arms .
What does God look like? Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found that Americans generally think God looks like a young, Caucasian man.

@Nicole_Cliffe On my honeymoon, stayed at a fancy B&B in Napa where they did evening wine/aperitif hour and also set out crystal decanters of port & sherry. My husband poured us full giant glasses of each.

āIn part, I think thatās what really scares the men participating in the backlash against #MeToo: itās not just that theyāre worried about being fired, but also that they ultimately wonāt be missed.ā.

Important to note that this is just a first step of many, many needed ones. I grieve what it took to get here, honor the courage of my colleagues, and apologize for the ways Iāve failed to lead to well in the past. More to come.

@cindywangbrandt Years of internalized shame around sexuality doesnāt disappear at the altar, even for those who waited. I think it can be difficult to make the mental shift.

I woke up to approx 25 texts from a group thread including a friend who is finally watching #TheWestWing and I feel so young and hopelessly optimistic about the country's political system all over again.

Just a note that this was a very difficult decision. @Sojourners was born from community & it's something we value greatly. In the endāand as our community platforms/opportunities increasedāwe prioritized the health of our writers, staff, and other readers

From the @Sojourners archives, 1991:. "[Anita Hill] survived with her dignity. And she left a message for her sisters: 'It is worth the risk . I am hopeful that others will not become discouraged but instead will find the strength to come forward.'".

@JessGrose Itās that thing where you get sick after powering through a major event because your body finally catches up with you after the adrenaline drains. Have also found part of it is the feeling that you *should* be fine nowāyou made it?!ābut youāre very not. Thereās a guilt element.
