Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a role in a huge range of diseases. This work from @TheCrick, @SickKidsNews and @JohnsHopkins is really encouraging to see.
Researchers from the Crick, @SickKidsNews and @JohnsHopkins have discovered a recycling mechanism that’s essential for keeping mitochondria healthy. It could become a future target to diagnose and treat conditions related to mitochondrial dysfunction.

Great interview with @DrJamesLee. “Even if you cure only one patient, it’s important for that person and their family." The mysteries of inflammatory bowel disease are being cracked — offering hope for new therapies

Congratulations to @VivianLiLab, @Nikos_Angelis7, Anna and the rest of the team – understanding gut repair after damage is a huge question that needs to be tackled from all angles.
Cells in the intestine constantly renew as they get worn down or damaged ♻️ A team from across the Crick has identified a gene that plays a key role in this process in mice, opening the door for new research on gut tissue repair.

Welcome back to @TheCrick, @EdjCarr . It’s great to keep building our community of academic clinicians.
Meet @EdJCarr! 👋 Ed recently joined the Crick on secondment from UCL. His lab studies why different people’s immune systems respond differently to the same 'immune challenge', such as an identical vaccination.

Brilliant to see the redevelopment of our neighbourhood nominated for such a prestigious award. King’s Cross has become a hub for business and community over the past few years, thanks in no small part to its design. #riba #stirlingprize @RIBA
We’ve announced the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2024 – recognising the UK’s best new architecture. ➡️ Explore the six inspiring projects: #StirlingPrize is sponsored by @autodesk

We’re proud to be an international institute at @TheCrick and UK science benefits hugely from international talent. This report deserves attention in the Government’s first hundred days.
The cost of visas for scientists at our research institutes is set to rise by 44% in a year. This will discourage scientists from coming to work in the UK and take vital funds away from our life-saving research. We’re calling on the new government to make its #First100Days a #TurningPointForCancer, including by reviewing visa fees for scientists. Find out more 👉

Congratulations Giulia. More good news for our group leaders from our partner universities. This should be a really productive partnership with our Structural Biology platform.
Congratulations to group leader Giulia Zanetti, currently on secondment at the Crick from @ucl and @BirkbeckUoL, on being awarded £1.2m from @The_MRC 🥳 The funding will support her lab's research into complex secretory processes in animal cells

Some really interesting insights and stunning images in this piece from @neuroblonde, @neuromiked, Katy and Yulia. Tackling neurodegenerative disease is an urgent issue, and it needs interdisciplinary approaches.
Today is #WorldBrainDay! 🧠 We spoke to scientists from two of our neuroscience labs to learn about their research on neurodegenerative diseases. If you want to learn even more brain science, check out our free exhibition #HelloBrain! #WorldBrainDay2024

Our #Genomics lab is an essential part of so many projects at @TheCrick, and a great example of a truly collaborative team. Hear more from @Jerome_Nicod about their technology and approach.
What is genomics? 🧬 Jerome Nicod, head of the Crick's Genomics platform, explains what genomics is and how much better DNA sequencing technology has gotten in the last few decades.
