I took a short break from this platform & that's all I needed. Felt amazing to not have to have my mental space crowded by illogical, specious, & bad faith content. Will only be cross-posting from now on. To engage with me, find me on the other platforms under the same username.

Taking a social media break for a bit to avoid the incoming clown show as much as I can and focus on the local.

That this is what has happened - regardless of intent - is reason enough to ban it YESTERDAY.

If Tik Tok really was nefarious (disclaimer: I personally do NOT believe it was) than it would the most brilliant espionage weapon ever conceived. Create a program that has the capability to gather intel and data from among the citizenry of an enemy state, but then set it up so that the program starts giving money to the enemy’s citizens for activity using it. It even starts replacing some citizens’ income, and it incentivizes millions to readily use it. Basically, you have free access to an endless wealth of data on enemy populace and you create an environment in which the populace will be angry with their own government if/when the government shuts the money-giving program down. It’d be diabolically brilliant. If it were true…

@KelsBerg Imagine asking the founding fathers if it would be cool if England could send a direct letter to all US citizens whenever and as much as they wanted lol

I thought for sure that after he walked through the fact that, all three branches - that rarely agree on anything - were unanimously agreed on this law, he’d concede that maybe there was something to this but NO. Dude goes off the rails.

@nicholas_bagley @evelyndouek These kinds of moves make more sense after hearing @ezraklein’s recent explanation of the “attention war.” Trump wins by being the constant center of attention regardless of whether he’s able to deliver. But it’s not a strategy necessarily - it’s just intuitive for a fraud.

@SLCPaladin I agree. It’s something to keep an eye on but should only be one factor of many in a deeper analysis.

@brentdavis You said taxes should be pay-per-use.. That’s exactly what property taxes are. You don’t pay unless you have property that uses public services like roads, police, legal systems to protect property rights, etc.
