Bill and Ashlee Kniesly have purchased Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery from longtime owners Owen and Beverly Thompson. The Thompsons owned the property from 1995 to 2020, and served as the speedway’s longest ownership group since the track’s inception in 1947.

Louisville, Kentucky's Joie Ray was the first African American race driver to be licensed by AAA, the American Automobile Association. Ray competed regularly at Salem Speedway where, in this image, he's getting ready to roll off on the Salem high-banks in 1948. He died in 2007.

A spectacular shot of Cambridge City, Indiana's Larry "Crash" Crockett burning the right-rear at Salem on Oct. 3, 1954. Crockett, in his only Indy 500, finished 9th at the Brickyard that same year. He died less than a year later in this same car at Langhorne.
