Honourable Minister of State, Health & Social Welfare, Nigeria. Former Minister of State, Envir | Public Health Physician | Environmentalist || The Home Boy🇳🇬
Abuja-Nigeria
Joined September 2023
Today, as Nigeria joined the rest of the world to commemorate Neglected Tropical Disease Day, I signed the condolence register opened for the 39th President of the United State, President Jimmy Carter who passed on recently. The commemoration also witnessed a one minute silence in memory of the departed former President. President Jimmy Carter, through his Carter Centre was instrumental to the elimination of Guinea Worm from Nigeria. As a young corp doctor serving in Onicha LG of old Abia State (now Ebonyi), I was a volunteer for the Nigeria Guinea Worm Eradication Programme (NIGEP). I worked with members of the American Peace Corp and witnessed first hand, the contributions of the Carter Centre. I remain a proud holder of the Jimmy Carter Golden Handshake Award for my participation in NIGEP activities. #SalakoIziaq

The tanker explosion at Suleja, Niger State which left many dead, several with burn injuries and millions of properties destroyed is a devastating and unfortunate tragedy that saddens me. I am particularly sad because this is another tragedy that shouldn't have happened. I commissirate with the families of those that lost their lives. May Almighty Allah rest their soul and console their families . I pray for speedy recovery for all injured. Clearly, explosions from fallen tankers is becoming an incident of public health significance in our country requiring robust intervention to prevent. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will work with other government agencies including subnational authorities to focus on preventive measures especially getting the public to better appreciate the dangers of scooping fuel from a fallen tanker. Meanwhile, @officialABAT has directed 100% subsidized healthcare for all victims on admission at Federal Medical Centre, Jabi and the University of Abuja Teaching Hospitals, Gwagwalada through the Renewed Hope Relief Fund.

Feedback from the investigation conducted by an officer designated to look into the matter found out that the process was not hijacked as you alleged. The initial process was commenced without the statutory approval of relevant agencies including the ministry and the Federal Character Commission. It was therefore cancelled and had to be freshly conducted after the needed approvals. The process has now been concluded and successful candidates awaiting formal engagement.

Today, in consonance with the essential services nature of healthcare, I was the guest on Sunday Morning Live on FM, a flagship programme of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, OGBC 90.5FM. I spoke extensively on the topic: Tackling Public Health Challenges During and after the Festive Season and also used the opportunity to highlight the strategic direction of the Nigerian health sector under @officialABAT Listerners participated through phone calls and social media postings to ask questions and to also commend the frontburner attention that the healthcare sector is receiving under PBAT. It was a very engaging session with Veteran Wole Otayemi and a wonderful feeling of homecoming. #SalakoIziaq

Yesterday 23rd December, 2024, I delivered the message of hope and assurance of a better Nigeria from my boss @officialABAT to a cross-section of Ogun State people as we distributed Federal government palliatives (rice and fertilizer) and also conducted a free medical mission in Ayetoro, the capital of Yewa North local government of Ogun State. It was a seamless distribution carried out in an organised manner as we had representatives of market men and women, religious leaders (Muslim and Christian), farmers association, community leaders (Baales) and the political class received the palliatives on behalf of their members. The medical outreach attended to over 500 adults and 200 children with consultation and screening for hypertension and diabetes. Free drugs were also provided for hypertension, diabetes and common ailments like malaria fever, upper/lower respiratory tract infections, arthritis etc. #SalakoIziaq

I became a close watcher of Atalanta BC because of this young man, and yesterday, he made me a fan, an ardent supporter, at least for as long as he plays for the team. So proud of you, Ademola Lookman, for your deep connection to your root and your pride in Nigeria. CONGRATULATIONS #Love4Country
