I've looked at MEA notes in the National Archives of India. This is just not how they work. Add to this:
- Don't think the FS would sign off a memo as "Vinay Kwatra" without including his post, "Foreign Secretary" in there. 1/2
Saw a copy of the said "memo". Let's just say it doesn't pass the smell test. First, the language & grammar are too poor to meet basic IFS standard. Elitist or not but I have covered the MEA for a bit - 30 yrs to be precise. I know how they write. 1/4

I went to school in Delhi and you'd have to have slept through your history class to not know about the Cholas.

I can hardly believe it's been 3 years since I went on a trip to Kumaon. Peak winters and completely off season meant a quiet sojourn, with the clearest views.

I think Derek is wrong and inaccurate here, both in terms of what's actually happening, and also the US' expectation of India. I've written about this before (screenshots attached; full piece here )
India will only go so far in helping Quad to counter China in the South China Sea. New Delhi is more focused on its own neighborhood. Hence, US now has an alternate Quad—privately called “Squad”—that will do it. Squad replaces India with the Philippines.
