At the Dec. 18 Board of Education meeting, Team Sachem was recognized for being the top fundraiser for this year’s Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge, benefitting Special Olympics New York. This year, the team grew to more than 60 members and raised more than $32,000.

🎶Student musicians performed holiday songs as the crowd filled into the Dec. 18 Board of Education meeting. It was a wonderful way for students to show off their talents while wishing the Sachem community a happy holiday ahead of the December break.

Isabelle Noble recently graduated from a prestigious 12-week Women in Technology program at BAE Systems. This program is highly selective, accepting 12 students each year. It provides hands-on experience in all phases of engineering.

East senior Ibrahim Suleman was named a QuestBridge Scholar, earning him a full, four-year scholarship to Princeton University. Suleman matched with one of his top choices, making him one of 2,627 finalists to be named a Match Scholarship Recipient. Congratulations!

5th graders at Hiawatha put their knowledge to the test during the Geography Bee. Students faced off in classroom-level competitions, then winners advanced to the schoolwide championship. They were quizzed on states, continents & oceans. Congrats to Luka, this year’s winner!

East senior Michael Lubniewski has been named a semifinalist in the 2025 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. This year, 1,336 students were selected as semifinalists from more than 105,000 applicants. They were selected based on their academic excellence, leadership & service activities.

Second graders at Waverly participated in some festive fun with family members. Students invited guests to the building on Dec. 5 to help build gingerbread houses. The second graders used milk cartons, graham crackers and a variety of tasty treats to decorate their creations.

Samoset Middle School student Orion Edwards-Wilson was one of seven students to be honored with the Outstanding Interpretation Award in the National PTA Reflections student art program. Orion was named a winner for his piece, “A Spark of Hope,” in the music composition category.

The Sachem North String Ensemble rang in the holiday season at Atria Hertlin Place in Ronkonkoma on Dec. 3.🎶 An annual tradition, the students play a number of songs before breaking into a sing-a-long for the residents.

🌱Students at Sachem High School North are using Tower Gardens as a classroom tool. Recently, Mr. Logiudice's food trends classes and Ms. Frosina's horticulture classes grew two towers of basil for a cooking lesson on pesto.

Seneca raised more than $1,300 to be donated to Paws of War, an organization that places service and support dogs with US veterans. The building held a home run derby fundraiser, & the winners of the derby presented the check to organization representatives & service dog, Hero.🐾

LI Love on a Leash visited students at Wenonah ahead of the Thanksgiving break. Love on a Leash is a nonprofit that provides meaningful and productive pet therapy. They visit schools, nursing homes, hospitals and other organizations to provide comfort and happiness.🐶🐾

Team Sachem once again participated in the polar plunge at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, hosted by Special Olympics New York. It is the 10th anniversary of Team Sachem participating. This year, the team raised more than $31,000, which will help sponsor more than 60 athletes.
