Marmol wasn’t qualified for the job, this organization knew it and hired him anyway. The SP was woefully short for the 3rd or 4th year in a row, they knew it and did nothing. Any change MUST start with a housecleaning in the front office. Period.
#STLCards
Since Jeff Albert was hired before the 2019 season, the Cardinals have played 15 postseason games. EIGHT of those have been losses where they scored ONE run or were shutout. It’s one or the other, hitting instruction or the hitters. Can’t have it both ways.
#stlcards
Joe Sheehan on the local team “If you take out the Arenado trade, the last few Cardinals seasons look like a product of a team hoping to win but not trying all that hard to do so”. Spot on.
#STLFLY
Truly unbelievable stats from Bernie:
- The Cardinals were in last place 87% of the time this season.
- The team was above .500 for ONE day the entire year which was after playing Toronto in the opening series.
But no changes necessary. 🤡🤡🤡🤡.
#STLCards
Cardinals brought in 6 pitchers through FA or waivers before this season
Matz
VerHagen
Wittgren
Brooks
Naughton
McFarland
Combined they have an ERA of 6.24 and a -2.4 WAR. Low hanging fruit indeed. 👎🏻.
#stlcards
Give Bader all the credit in the world for realizing no one within the organization was going to be able to help him. Finding it elsewhere has not only made him a much better hitter but possibly saved his career based on how things were trending.
#STLFLY
As we sit today, Cards payroll is $141 million. Last season? $172 million. Could they make a splash? Sure they could but will they? We know the answer.
#STLFLY
The Cardinals will spend well over 100 days in last place by the time the season is over. To think they will more than likely bring everyone in the FO and dugout back in 2024 and expect “change” is unconscionable.
#STLCards
It’s truly sad how far this organization has fallen. Could have made the argument at one time that it was the best run franchise in ALL of pro sports. Now they are a laughingstock.
#ForTheLou
John Mozeliak: "Obviously getting somebody like Dylan Carlson back will be a boost for this club. Hopefully by the end of the week or sometime early next week, we'll see him."
On Tommy Edman: "We're pretty encouraged about where he's at."
#STLCards
By the end of next season, the Cardinals will have paid Mikolas over $113 MILLION. Yes, the argument can be made the payroll should be higher but the better argument is smarter decision making. Clean house.
#ForTheLou
The premise that Oli somehow gets a free pass on this disaster doesn’t make sense. Responsible for the roster? No. Responsible for just about everything else? You bet. Including this team quitting on the season weeks ago. He’s not qualified.
#STLCards
The Cardinals are:
- 1-9 their last 10 postseason games.
- 4-14 in their last 18.
- 5-17 in their last 22.
- 30-37 (counting this weekend) against winning teams in 2022.
And some of you think everything is just fine. 🤡🤡🤡🤡.
#stlcards
It doesn’t matter if they ask for a dime or a billion dollars, the
@Cardinals
should get exactly $0.0 in public money, fund your own improvements. This fanbase base pays enough of the freight already.
#ForTheLou
CWS rumored to have Story on their radar. TLR never lets an organization rest which is a great thing. Would be nice if the Cardinals had some of that passion, it all went out the door with him.
#STLFLY
PDJ is hitting .095 since being sent to Memphis. My goodness, he might be broken beyond repair. The Cardinals couldn’t get a rosin bag for him now.
#stlcards
ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian heard that Terry Francona could manage again soon
"Was told Tito is going to get healthy and then he'll be back [managing] in a year and a half...he loves the game, part of his fiber in every way, would not be shocked to see him back."

It’s incredible to me that a good number of Cardinal fans want Carpenter brought back for nostalgia purposes. The question is, can he help win games? We know the answer. Stop it.
#STLCards
Sosa has brought a much needed different dynamic to the lineup. Team took off when he started playing regularly. Long term answer? Not sure but exactly what this team needed right now. Should have been playing everyday much earlier.

“This is always a tough question to answer, because people will say we’re not winning. But I think he’s done an amazing job.” Moe on Marmol when asked by Katie Woo. This is the main issue to its core.
#STLCards
Absolutely stunning how far this franchise has fallen. Where is the owner? Why isn’t he demanding better and making appropriate changes? Oh, that’s right he’s busy begging for public money. 💩💩💩💩.
#ForTheLou
Is it August? What 22 year old needs to be kept “fresh” a week into the season? He needs AB’s. This organization is incompetent on every level.
#ForTheLou
Xander Bogaerts' single up the middle was just 69.2 mph off the bat, so it's OK to wonder whether or not
#STLCards
rookie SS Masyn Winn would have gotten to it.
Veteran SS Brandon Crawford did not snag it. The Cards want to keep the 22-year-old Winn fresh before he wears down.
It’s not going to get any easier for the Cardinals after 2023. New rankings for all farm systems (MLB Pipeline):
#2
- Pirates
#3
- Brewers
#4
- Cubs
#5
- Reds
#22
- Cardinals
They must find a way.
#STLCards
So it looks like the Cardinals are all in on a “hitting” coach despite not finishing higher than 21st in runs per game since his start in 2019. This would be a surprising development for most teams but business as usual for the home club. 👎🏻.
#STLFLY
A few things to keep in mind once we get to the off-season.
1. This guy said he knew what he was doing.
2. This guy said there were 6 SP for 2023.
3. This guy gave Mikolas a contract extension.
4. This guy will be looking for SP over the winter.
#STLCards
The most distributing thing about these first two games is that the Cardinals look like they don’t even belong on the same field as the Dodgers.
#STLCards
New: The Cardinals are gearing up for a big ask for more public funding for Busch Stadium. The team president compares the potential scale of the project to two other franchises that each obtained more than $500M in public funds for stadium upgrades.
This isn’t an excuse but just wonder if Arenado is pissed at Moe based on what he was told in the “meeting” over the winter. My guess is he expected more to be done to the roster for agreeing to stay with his current deal.
#STLCards
John Mozeliak on Yadier Molina joining the
#STLCards
in an advisory or coaching position:
“Right now he doesn’t have the time, but the door will always be open.”
Whitey was a maverick just like Gussie. He came in, immediately cleaned house and rebuilt the team from the ground up. Fan favorite? Gone. HOF’er? Gone. Didn’t matter, he had a vision and was he ever right. Greatest manager/GM in team history.
#ForTheLou
The Cardinals talent evaluation is beyond poor as we know but just as big of an issue is developing talent. Why do so many players leave this organization and crush it elsewhere? This needs fixed immediately but difficult when the owner won’t do what’s necessary.
#STLCards
Don’t discount the balanced schedule in all of this. Having over 1/3 of your schedule against the Pirates, Reds and Cubs masked a ton of stink over the past few years.
#STLCards
The owner thinks the FO is doing a good job.
The FO thinks the manager/coaches are doing a good job.
The manager/coaches think the players are doing a good job.
Complete denial up and down the entire organization.
#STLCards
Great article from Bernie was some interesting facts:
- Cardinals were 30-35 against winning teams
- Cardinals were 45-41 against teams outside the NL Central
- Hit $1.85 with ONE extra base hit in the series against the Phillies
In other words, not very good.

' loss: "At some point, you just have to do something about it. If you keep getting punched in the face, punch back."
Sonny Gray has a “mild” hamstring strain, per Mozeliak. Getting him ready for opening day is now “in question” and “challenging.”
Starting year on IL is possible.
Let’s be honest. The Cardinals knew what Contreras was before they signed him, to now claim otherwise is typical of how they do business. It’s not his fault the pitchers can’t execute, he should ask for a trade. This organization is a disgrace.

@Ackerman1120

Since the start of the 2000 season, the Cardinals have had 1 losing season. They've developed a spoiled, entitled fan base. That's not the fans fault. That being said, a dose of reality now and than can be good for the soul. Maybe people will appreciate winning more after this.
I’m not big on giving season ending grades but here are the only ones that matter in my opinion:
Owner: F
Front Office: F
Managers/Coaches: F
#STLCards
End of the day it’s up to the players to perform at the plate, on the mound or in the field. That said teams have a manager and coaching staff for a reason. The Cardinals have arguably the worst in MLB. They can’t help anyone improve or develop.
#ForTheLou
The lack of leadership throughout the organization is appalling and very telling at the same time. A shell of what they once were. Soft and weak has taken over and looks to be here to stay.
#ForTheLou
Just because the roster is flawed (and it is no matter what anyone says) doesn’t give Oli and his “coaching staff” a free pass as some would allow you to believe.
#ForTheLou
#STLCards
This is a complete organizational failure the likes we’ve never seen before. EVERYONE is to blame from the owner to the players. The cracks have been forming since 2014 and have now reached the point where the foundation needs replaced instead of repaired.
#ForTheLou
Once upon a time, in a land far far away I would’ve put the Cardinals up against ANY franchise in ALL OF PRO sports. Those days are long gone. Sad.
#STLCards
The man (Contreras) practically begged last night to be moved down in the lineup but in typical Cardinal fashion, no one is listening. Marmol managing like he doesn’t care or has a job for life (Door

for me). A complete circus.

Top 5 reasons the Cardinals won’t be getting the help that’s desperately needed:
Carpenter - $18.5 million
Mikolas - $16.750 million
Fowler - $14.750 million
Miller - $12 million
Carlos - $11.7 million
$73.7 million for these 5 alone. Complete mismanagement.
Heard the DeWitt III interview where he plays the "we're finding out who the real fans are" card, as well as "if fans don't show up to the ballpark, we won't have the money to get players". I wanted to put my fist through a wall.
