Professor David MacMillan from @Princeton University, the 2021 @NobelPrize Laureate in Chemistry, has accepted an invitation to visit the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre! At @SOLARIS_science, we are actively collaborating with scientists from @JagiellonskiUni, @ICHF_PAN, and @UU_University to develop experimental methods for studying dual catalytic systems - the very field that earned Prof. MacMillan the Nobel Prize. His personal endorsement letter is currently supporting a project under review at the @NCN_PL. While the exact date of his visit is being finalized, we extend our gratitude to the Fundacja Kościuszkowska and Dr. Zbigniew Inglot for their invaluable support in making this initiative possible. This visit marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Princeton University, fostering scientific exchanges and internships.

Information meeting about the SOLARIS synchrotron at @PW_edu On January 30th, our scientists met with over 40 participants from the Warsaw University of Technology (Faculties of Physics and Chemistry), the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the @WAT_edu, and the company Vigo. During the meeting, we discussed the research opportunities offered by the @SOLARIS_science and the procedures for applying for beamtime.

A new publication from the #URANOS beamline is now available! Members of the “Spectroscopy of Novel Quantum States” team from the Paris Institute of Nanosciences Sorbonne Universités came to the URANOS beamline @SOLARIS_science to study the electronic properties of a recently synthetized material: Cu2Ge which is a so-called “nodal line” topological semi-metal. More generally, their scientific objectives are focused on understanding the electronic and magnetic properties of low-dimensional systems such as superconductors, topological and magnetic materials, or Mott insulators. Today, the SOLARIS Centre had the honor of hosting distinguished representatives from the world of science and diplomacy: Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz (Chair of @DiamondLightSou), Bjorn Saven (Founder at IK Partners), and Martin Brozek (International Advisor at the Parliamentary International Office). Our guests, accompanied by Director Jakub Szlachetko and SOLARIS team members Artur Biela, and Przemyslaw Grudnik, toured the synchrotron hall and cryo-microscopy laboratories. During the visit, they learned about the functioning of the synchrotron and cryo-microscopes, as well as the unique research infrastructure we offer.

The year 2024 at the SOLARIS NSRC was a time of dynamic development, successes and new opportunities, thanks to which we strengthened our position among the leaders in #synchrotron research! ☑️ Infrastructure development: launch of the POLYX beamline, the completion of the second phase of the CIRI beamline installation, commencement of construction of the SMAUG beamline in the new part of the experimental hall. ☑️ Beam availability: increase of beam time by 20%, the total time scheduled for beam operation was 4838 h, radiation source availability was at 97.2%. ☑️ Users and publications: 429 applications in two calls, 150 new scientific publications. ☑️ Conferences and workshops: "Light for Ukraine" conference for the Ukrainian scientific community, "Joint Meeting of PSRS Members and SOLARIS Centre Users", synchrotron school "Crosscarpatian Synchrotron School", doctoral courses for students. ☑️ Scientific diplomacy: visit of the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Maria Mrówczyńska, and the Consul General of France, Cedric Peltier. ☑️ International cooperation: completion of the "Sylinda" project, inauguration of the "RIANA" and "NEPHEWS" projects. ☑️ Popularization of science: participation in science festivals and researchers' night, events organized by the SPIN Associ-ation, opening of the “SOLARIS Visitors Centre”, grant from the “Social Responsibility of Science II” program, record number of nearly 6,000 visitors. The events of the past year are setting new directions for the future! Plans for the coming years include further moderniza-tion of infrastructure, development of international cooperation and (most importantly) continuing research at the highest world level!
