Here's an image of a penny. Nothing too interesting by itself. What's interesting is the story behind it. This physical penny exists no more. In fact, all pennies are going to be discontinued and slowly disappear. The concept of this particular penny exists through Rutherford Chang's CENTS. The details supporting the concept, such as the image and metadata, can be found by anyone with a Bitcoin node and Ordinals viewer. This penny was once created in 1979, the year of Rutherford's birth. Rutherford destroyed the physical penny to create CENTS, and his art lives on forever on Bitcoin. Art on Bitcoin.🧡

Heartbreaking news—the CENTS community has lost its visionary founder, and the world has lost a great conceptual artist. As a leader in time-based and conceptual art, CENTS has always stood out on @MagicEden . His work will be forever preserved on the blockchain, RIP.

TRUMP INSTRUCTS TREASURY TO HALT PENNY PRODUCTION President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he has instructed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to halt the production of pennies, citing the high cost of producing one cent. “For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful! I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let’s rip the waste out of our great nations budget, even if it’s a penny at a time,” Trump said in a post to social media as he returned to Washington from the Super Bowl.
