Regional Event Lead for
@stjohnambulance
based in the West Midlands Region helping our
#StJohnPeople
to deliver first class events
Also 🚑 paramedic in the NHS
Attended a cardiac arrest in a public place on shift today. Before we arrived, first aiders on scene had delivered CPR & shocks from their AED
Patient was awake and talking by the time they arrived at hospital.
Knowing First aid and access to AEDs is so important to saving lives
19 years ago today, on 4th February 2004 I officially became a volunteer with
@stjohnambulance
. Who'd have thought 2 decades later I'd still be here as the
@SJAOperations
Regional Event Lead West Mids & paramedic.
#AskMe
how joining SJA can totally change your entire life
Its a
@stjohnambulance
family affair here at
@Lichfield10k
Paramedic Les Nurse and
@SJASSW
District Manager Clare are joined their daughter Dr Charlotte Crook on the first ever event where all 3 have been together since Charlie gained her red slides.
A true SJA moement!
Thanks to the Jubilee I've seen
@QueenWillRock
&
@adamlambert
perform 3 times un the last 7 days (rehearsal, Jubilee and tonight) & without doubt they remain the greatest performers alive today!
My god can Adam Lambet sing & Queen are still the best in the world
The final hurrah for the mighty Crusader.
Next week
@stjohnambulance
are retiring our Crusader Class Ambulance that entered service in 1999. These phenomenonal vehicles revolutionised SJA & served faithfully since
TR105 has already responded to a patient on its retirement event
Delighted to say that in the New Year I'll be taking up the role of
@stjohnambulance
Regional Event Lead in West Midlands Region.
Sad to leaving the Regional Community Response Lead role after 2 amazing years but time for a new challange.
Bring on 2023
My
@stjohnambulance
day has bought me to London for investiture into the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem
@StJohnEngland
As days out go, it's not too bad.
Arrived at 999 call today to find a passing
@SJA_ACR
crew from the paediatric transport team had stopped to help and dealt with most of it already. We just had to load the pt and go to hospital.
I do love it when my two worlds collide in such a seamless way.
Further
@stjohnambulance
history made today as I completed the very first ambulance patient details on to our new Electronic Patient Report Form.
There's a receptionist at a hospital somewhere who was very delighted to be booking in SJA's first ever EPRF ambulance patient
So this is finally happening, after years of taking care of him as a cadet and helping him with student para life,
@stevewaugh22
and I are finally crewing as paramedics together for
@OFFICIALWMAS
#ProudDay
After an evening of preparation our
@stjohnambulance
Wolverhampton Training centre is ready to start equipping our
#StJohnPeople
to start delivering the flu & covid vaccines. Tomorrow across the country is launch day for one of the biggest single operations we have undertaken.
I am very proud to be leading the
@stjohnambulance
teams here around Westminster as thousands of people gather to pay their final respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Last night I was responding to people who had been waiting 36 hours for an ambulance to arrive, many in vulnerable or difficult situations.
I've been crewing ambulances for 16 years and I've never known things as bad as last night
The system truly is breaking in front of us
How fitting that just before Ieft home for my last outing as
@StJohnAmbulance
Regional Community Response Operations Lead I opened this package from
@Anni_b
ready for my new start in the events team
Totally swapped the lanyards over at the stroke of 12
#HappyNewTeam
#HappyNewYear
I'm out tonight visiting the fabulous
@stjohnambulance
volunteers giving up their Christmas eve at our Night Time Economy Projects around the midland. Being joined by district officer
@PhilipMcCahill
& very special guest to bring festive cheer.
Merry Christmas!!!
Spending today in
@stjohnambulance
brand new Command & Control Pod at
#OxfordHalfMarathon
This is the latest innovation in our operational communications.
It's a very snazzy unit including live cctv on the mast to give us a birds eye view of the event site
Hello
#BirminghamGreatRun
from (some of) the
@stjohnambulance
team on the finish line first aid post.
Our team of 10 includes a doctor, ambulance crew and first aiders.
Hope everyone is having a great time at
@Great_Run
#Birmingham
and smashing those run times!
So what does washing day look like when you work for
@OFFICIALWMAS
& Volunteer for
@stjohnambulance
?
Apparently very green.
I *swear* I own clothes that aren't green! This is just for St Patrick's day, honest.
End of a
@stjohnambulance
era
After 20 years of hearing "the lease is ending and Lionel St will go soon"
Lionel St is going.
A huge team of volunteers and staff have deceended in
#Birmingham
to help clear out decades worth of Regional, District & County history
So after 2 years hiatus in a different team, it’s the return of the
#EventsTeam
role bar tonight as I’m off to visit the fantastic
@stjohnambulance
team at
@Wolves
It’s my first outing in my new
@SJAOperations
Regional Events Role, so they have to go easy on me, it’s my first day
Some of the
@stjohnambulance
Operational management team today at the
#GreatBirminghamRun
Bronzes
Youth, finish, cycle, city, MRT & logistics all working together to deliver a great event (not pictured due to being stuck in the traffic, Bronze South
@SJA_Alastair
)
Say hello to Foxtrot1 here at
#BirminghamPride
comprised entirely of
@sjawmryouth
cadet first aiders.
Trained to the exact same standard as our adult operational first aiders our young people are an integral part of
@stjohnambulanceon
events across the country.
Today
@jwhitehurstdr
and I are crewing an ambulance for
@stjohnambulance
out in Derby supporting
@EMASNHSTrust
Along with us is New Emergency Ambulance Crew attendant Lee on his first shift!
Busy but good day with lots of different patients seen.
Today AAP Brandon & I are on an
@SJA_ACR
ambulance shift working for
@EMASNHSTrust
.
Say hello to
@stjohnambulance
Trainee Emergency Ambulance Crew
@JameelMann_SJA
who has joined us as part of his 3rd manning hours as heads towards qualifying to crew our emergency ambulances
Had a car block our path and hit the brakes several times on our way to a 999, including on an island & the wrong side of the road before hurling abuse at us... what did we do wrong? Driving TOO SLOW on blue lights to be going to a real emergency. No plate➡🚔
#couldntmakeitup
Members of the public and staff from
@WestMidsFire
are busy training to be volunteer vaccinators with
@stjohnambulance
in Birmingham today. Having looked at injections earlier we are now recapping basic first aid.
My nans Gp advised today that to avoid the 2 week wait for an xray to call 999 for an ambulance to take her up to the ED xray.
Said it wouldn't be one of those blue light ambulances but 1 of the other kind
Paras & Gp's definitely need to send more time learning each others roles
Amazing moment today at
#SuttonFunRun
where one of our
@stjohnambulance
cadet first aiders was reunited with a patient she helped to resuscitate after he had a cardiac arrest at the same event last year.
Fantastic to see him fully recovered & back to finish the course
#Lifesaver
It finally happened. Tonight on Birmingham Night Time Economy I treated an adult legally out in a bar who was born after I joined
@stjohnambulance
How I must look to these people ⬇️
#old
"I just did a normal job" 104 year old William on being a medical orderly carrying wounded in and out of no-mans land on a Italian Mountain on
#mygrandadswar
I'd hate to see this man's idea of a difficult job
#Hero
Back at Buckingham Palace as Bronze 2 West for
@stjohnambulance
ready for
#PlatinumJubilee
Pageant to get started.
A parade seems to have formed behind me as the military move into place
Around
#BirminghamPride
today we have a number of our Regional Leadership team.
@PhilipMcCahill
and Charlie are here as bronze officers supporting managing the event, while
@tom_s_10
& I are visiting.
Getting out to see our
@stjohnambulance
people is a huge part of our role.
After 18 days of annual leave, including getting to be at the Jubilee celebrations in London at the weekend, it's back to the day job for
@OFFICIALWMAS
Hopefully day 1 will be a gentle easing back in!
Final check in with some of the
@stjohnambulance
at
@BirminghamPride
Arni is the operational commander over night at the
@SouthsideDist
safespace along with Paramedic Mike
Cycle responders
@KmswardWard
& Brandon are heading home after 12 hours of rapid responding around the site
Back out for
@stjohnambulance
volunteering today with the
@NHSBT
team in Stoke. I'm here til 19.30 to be a welcoming face to the donors as they arrive to give blood.
#MySJADay
The last time I was in London was with
@stjohnambulance
providing medical cover to those attending HM The Queen
#PlatinumJubilee
Today just a few months later I'm on my way back to the capital to provide medical cover to those those saying goodbye to HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Of course "shadow" is a relative term and we want
@sjawmryouth
people involved as possible so
@scr_nin
has been involved in the full
@stjohnambulance
event manager role today including allocations of first aid teams & delivering the briefing.
Annoyingly he did it better than me
Very surprised but grateful to have been presented with a
@stjohnambulance
Directors Commendation by
@CraigAHarman
this evening, which is a very nice way to round off my first year with
@SJA_ACR
Today I'm out at
#WorcesterVictorianFayre
with
@stjohnambulance
as part of the first aid team
#Foxtrot2
.
Carrying round a FA kit is a bit different to my usual response bags, monitors and drugs... but I must be okay at it, I've been presented with a role bar.
Like a good
@stjohnambulance
events lead I've been completing my
@SJAEPRR
decision log book through the weekend to make sure there's a good trail of all the decisions the control team have made this weekend.
Back out in Wolverhampton tonight supporting the
@stjohnambulance
NTE / Safe Haven project as paramedic at the unit.
Also, here I am being temporary ambulance driver cover as the inevitable call comes in just as one of the crew nipped off to the toilet
Paramedic multitasking
If Covid isn't real and the hosptials empty, and it's just a normal winter why are we all queuing up for 4+ hours and finish 2 hours late to hand over at hospital when we've never had to do at this hospital before?
Joined stage side by our fabulous
@stjohnambulance
@sjawmryouth
cadet team foxtrot 1 for the end of the festival with the human league.
*disclaimer photo taken after the act had finished so some ear protectionhad been removed.
Not to alarm anyone, but
@SJASSW
District Manager
@JontheMannion
and I are off on a foot patrol covering
@stjohnambulance
first aider foot team breaks
I'm sure it will all be fine 🤣
I'm even coping without any large bags or monitors with a proper first aid kit
#BasicsFirst
How to keep your controller team happy when they are also youth leaders... ccu colouring books!
We've kept
@Luke_SJA
entertained and out of mischief for hours today(just for you
@EmmaElgerton
)
Another
@stjohnambulance
day. Traded my managers role bar and tablet for a first aid kit and AED as I'm back at Edgbaston again but on a first aid foot team. Having a fantastic day patrolling the ground & leaving running the show in the hands of ops manager James.
#Foxtrot1
16 hours I'm home after absolutely stunning day as the roaming paramedic for
@stjohnambulance
at
#Hawkstone
#Motocross
Thank you and well done to fantastic SJA team who made today a huge success
While I was here I came across the now retired XE145, which in It's days KW213 was the ambulance I passed my original
@stjohnambulance
emergency ambulance course on in 2009.
It's like saying goodbye to an old friend.
The sad tale of my 🚑night shift . A patient waiting 8 hours for us, to then spend 7 hours queuing outside hosptial to get inside while we can do nothing to ease their symptoms but keep saying "I'm sure it won't be long"
The pressure on the NHS is still immense like never before
*Serious status*
@stjohnambulance
crews are volunteers. We give up our free time to provide medical care in our community so that no one suffers from a lack of first aid.
We DO NOT give up our time so you can get drunk an urinate all over the back of our ambulance
#fuming
It's really busy here at S61 at
@emergencyukshow
where
@Stjohnambulance
volunteers and staff are showing off all the many ways our charity can support our community locally and nationally
#ESS2019
After 8 and half wonderful (if occasionally stressful) years as part of the
@stjohnambulance
Events team, I'm trading my events team role bar to join
@SJA_ACR
as a Community Response Lead for West Region.
@NationalSJAEPD
its been a blast and a true pleasure.
18 years ago today I was officially signed up and on the books of
@stjohnambulance
as a first aider at
@BushburyASU
Which means tonight our NTE teams will be assessing people on nights out born after I joined SJA which doesn't make me feel old at all 👨🦳🧓
#18NotOut
Todays
@SJA_ACR
shift is my first time using our new "old" patient report forms that look very similar in design and feel to the version in use when I joined
@StJohnAmbulance
18 years ago (with a few tweaks to reflect our ambulance crews extended skills)
Obviously I approve 👍
Keeping my ambulance theme going, February 4th 2015 was the date I turned my volunteer job into my day job & passed the interview to join
@OFFICIALWMAS
. 8 years on of
#ParamedicLife
I can't imagine doing any other job. Clearly February 4th is my lucky day in the ambulance world
19 years ago today, on 4th February 2004 I officially became a volunteer with
@stjohnambulance
. Who'd have thought 2 decades later I'd still be here as the
@SJAOperations
Regional Event Lead West Mids & paramedic.
#AskMe
how joining SJA can totally change your entire life
Today I received a letter at home to tell me my favourite volunteer charity is updating its records and doesn't have my address on file.
So they sent me a letter.
To the address they don't have on file 🤣
Its the heat, it must be the heat.
Leave is coming to an end (2 more days of no emails!!!) but I'm dusting off the role bar & slides for the first time in many months to go & be clinical for
@stjohnambulance
at the
@SouthsideDist
safespace tonight
It's been far too long since I did anything event/clinical based
Joining the team from
@SJASSW
for
#StaffordshireCountyShow
today for the 2nd day of the event.
Our team of over 20 people is here all day to provide first aid to the thousands of people at the show.
What did you get for Christmas?
I got me a
@stjohnambulance
themed black eye thanks to a patient who I was in the middle of treating suddenly deciding to kick off and start throwing punches.
Thanks to very fast intervention from
@WMPolice
it wasn't worse
Merry Christmas
Today
@stevedrurySJA
and I are over in Derby crewing an
@stjohnambulance
vehicle with Trainee Emergency Ambulance Crew James out with us as part of his training course, seeing how all the training so far applies when patients come along.
After a long night in Birmingham the
@stjohnambulance
team are finally back at station cleaning ambulances, checking prfs and restocking kit after a busy
@SJA_ACR
Night Time Economy shift.
It finally had to happen.
@stjohnambulance
is taking my blood!
Self test supplied for confirming my hepb vaccination status ordered yesterday and arrived today.
Also helps to prove that my blood is in fact red and not, as rumours suggest, black and green.
Huge thank you to the wonderful
@OFFICIALWMAS
crew on 4728 who offered to take over our last patient so that we could head home 2.5 hours later than planned.
You are both amazing!
Regardless of which uniform we wear the Ambulance family has each others back!
Grateful patient tonight insisted on loading me & my crewmate up with sweets because we solved their issue at home without the need for going to hospital. Wouldn't let us out the door until we accepted them
Tonight Is a good night to be at work for
@OFFICIALWMAS
😁
#nightshift
I couldn't be prouder of the amazing
@stjohnambulance
volunteers who responded to this incident on Sunday. Working alongside our colleagues from
@OFFICIALWMAS
the medical team at
#SuttonFunRun
were able to ensure a family didn't have the worst day of their lives.
It's a sad day for
@stjohnambulance
as Sue our long term operational commander at
@Edgbaston
retires at the end of the year making today her final game in charge
Ground Safety Officer David has arranged a presentation in the control room to thank her for her many years service
First time since February 2020 as the
@stjohnambulance
Regional on call manager for
#WestRegion
2 days in and so far no floods, snow fall, bomb scares or pandemic scares.
Think that's a record for me
Here in
#WestPark
some of our
@stjohnambulance
volunteers have finished our new Level3 "Emergency Rosponder" training giving them increased training to meet the needs of the modern event world.
Soon all our people will have converted keeping SJA at the forefront of event cover
Entering hour 5 of holding outside the hospital with our patient having to take extra measures to keep the ambulance cool as the bay faces directly into the sun.
"What time do you finish & is your lunch on the ambulance" are not questions you want to hear at 7am on your 1st call
Following on from my last, omg how did we ever wear this uniform for
@stjohnambulance
duties and still manage to treat people 🤣
Thinking back to my early days picking up Speedway riders or dashing to the top stand of Molinuex, I'm suddenly reminded why I appreciate the SDU
Spent my Good Friday at Masters Pharmacy with two other
@stjohnambulance
volunteers and the pharmacy team helping to deliver Covid Vaccines to nearly 200 people and helping everyone take the steps to get back to normality; from meeting family to pubs reopening-
#TeamVaccine
Exciting times to be back in
@stjohnambulance
uniform at an actual event with a crowd!
Today I'm crewing an ambulance at
@Edgbaston
for one of the first sorting events in the country to welcome back the public.
It's good to be back
#TeamEvents
#HappyEventsOfficer
First 9
#StJohnpeople
signed off to train the
@stjohnambulance
vaccination training in
@NorthWmr
These people are going back to their local areas to deliver the courses to other St John People ready to start volunteering at vaccination centres as they open.
Different view for me today as I manage the
@stjohnambulance
Treatment Centre on the Mall/Buckingham Palace as thousands of people continue to pour into
#London
to pay their final respects to The Queen. If you are visiting today please plan ahead as it is exceptionally busy
