The City is implementing the Intersection Safety Camera Program to reduce the number of traffic violations, crashes, and injuries caused by red-light runners. August 1-31, the program will start with a warning period. Beginning September 1, violators will receive a $158 fine.

In the early hours of January 3rd, Sunny Isles Beach P.D. was alerted to a car stolen in Broward County entering the city. Thanks to their quick response, Officers Pascual and Ranallo located the suspected vehicle, arrested 2 juveniles and confiscated a stolen firearm.
It is with deep sadness that we report retired Sunny Isles Beach Police K-9 Rocko passed away peacefully and unexpectedly yesterday.
K-9 Rocko was not only a dedicated partner, but he was a part of our police family. (1/2)
We would like to commend Officers Fanjul & Bestard for their lifesaving actions when they were dispatched to the scene of an individual who 'could not breathe'. Recognizing cardiac arrest, Officer Fanjul immediately initiated CPR and was later relieved by Officer Bestard. (1/2)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Officer Cesar "Echy" Echaverry. Surrounded by loved ones, Echy succumbed to his injuries after a brief battle for his life.

We invite the public to attend a memorial service for K-9 Rocko on Wednesday, February 1 at 4 PM in the Commission Chambers.
Rocko was a valuable member of this agency and family for 9 years, and proudly served the residents of our community with his handler Sgt. Philpart.
Detective Sasee Morales received a commendation for her efforts in working with a youth in crisis within our community. Her compassion and guidance have had a positive effect on the individual. She is a true asset to our department and community.
Officer Amanda Ranallo is our Officer of the Quarter. She received commendations for her quick action in 2 separate emergency incidents where she provided life-saving assistance to an adult & 3-year-old child. Her heroic actions & continued service is an asset to our community.

The Ocean Rescue division just received five new beach accessible wheelchairs to add to our inventory. These wheelchairs are stable and easy to maneuver on sand, even near the shoreline.
The wheelchairs are available 7 days a week at all lifeguard towers.
The Haulover Inlet Bridge on Collins Avenue is closed between Sunny Isles Beach and Bal Harbour. Southbound Collins Avenue is closed at 158 Street. Traffic is being diverted. Please seek an alternate route and expect heavy delays.

We would like to commend Detective Mitch Glansberg for his efforts in locating a missing juvenile last month. He went above and beyond in his investigation, and because of his tireless work ethic, the juvenile was located and recovered safe and sound.

On Friday, August 5 we participated in a multi-agency marine patrol operation that resulted in 21 citations, 1 criminal, 19 safety inspections and 11 warnings. Our goal is to enforce maritime laws and enhance boater safety by educating those out on the water.

Due to a water main break, southbound traffic on Collins Avenue is being diverted west on Sunny Isles Blvd. Eastbound traffic on Sunny Isles Blvd. is being diverted south on Collins Avenue. Please avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
Out of an abundance of caution, Miami-Dade School Police placed Norman S. Edlecup/Sunny Isles Beach K-8 and Pelican Community Park on lockdown. There is no immediate threat. We anticipate that lockdown will be lifted shortly.
