"Parole" is from "parole d'honneur", the "word of honour" by a POW they would not take up arms if released. First recorded use in the criminal sense is in criminal slang in 1906. Pretty neat that criminal slang ends up as the title of a federal board. #etymologyalert

I always thought the word "primordial" was sort of mystical-sounding. In fact, it's from Latin "primus" (first) plus stem of "ordir" (order), so literally "first in a series". More mathematical than mystical! #etymologyalert

Some final thoughts on the eve of the Bencher election voting period. I am enormously proud to be a lawyer. I didn’t grow up around lawyers. I wasn’t encouraged to go into law because of a perception in the Asian Canadian community that the profession was inaccessible to us. /1

Twice in the last 4 months the @SCC_eng has taken swipes at interveners. Interveners go beyond the issues framed by the parties because the Court itself does so. SCC appeals are tough. The Court should be encouraging lawyers who offer assistance (for free).

This is a serious flaw. Publicly accessible invoices and receipts are key to finding discrepancies in campaign filings. Elections oversight for municipal elections was already pathetically weak. This change makes things even worse.
