Our goals for every TN student: an excellent K-12 public education, a postsecondary degree or credential, a great career. Nonprofit, founded 2009 by @bfrist.

SCORE sees significant opportunity to “think bigger and to think boldly” — a charge @GovBillLee gave in his State of the State tonight. We are pleased to see proposed budget investments in education and workforce development that align with SCORE priorities to support more Tennessee students toward success. Highlights include investments in the K-12 student-based funding formula, charter school facilities, and initiatives to better connect education to meet workforce needs. We look forward to continuing our work with Gov. Lee, K-12 and higher education partners, and the members of the General Assembly to ensure SCORE’s priorities are reflected in the final approved budget.

SCORE Founder & Chairman @bfrist writes about the impact of climate on students’ learning as well as their physical and mental health.

Every day experts are publishing new insights about education and AI. SCORE is particularly interested in how AI in education prepares students for the workforce. During our recent SCORE Institute, AI's Impact on Education and Career Pathways, Dr. Lynne Parker, the new Executive Director of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, explained how AI is transforming the workplace, how that will impact TN's economy, and how we should respond. Keep your learning going on this topic by watching a recording of Parker’s presentation and see how TN and the nation can address the challenges and barriers to implementing and using AI in education.

Teachers matter to student success. Across Tennessee’s history, Black educators have played key roles in our educational progress. In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth, we're honoring educators like Lena Mae Bransford of Springfield, TN. Known as a “legendary educator” in Robertson County, Lena was born in 1873 to former slaves and went on to graduate from high school and college — an accomplishment almost unheard of for Black women of her time. As a teenager, she helped found the Bransford School, Springfield’s first school for Black students. Read her story here:

The Nation’s Report Card from @NAEP_NCES shows that TN students amassed some “firsts.” For the first time, we rank above the national average in both fourth- and eighth-grade math & ELA & are listed among the top 25 states. We are outpacing the nation in math & ELA proficiency rates, while also improving in reading — even though the nation is seeing a decline. Amid this good news, we must continue to work together toward even more progress & closing achievement gaps. More analysis from SCORE will come soon. Be sure to sign up for our Friday webinar where we’ll dive deeper into the data.
