Pollard's 55m kick. Kolbe's conversion block. Kwagga's unrelenting spirit. Etzebeth's unwavering power. Ox's single-mindness. Kriel's soaring self-belief. What a wonderful Test match. These men are special.

I say Temba Bavuma averages 64 in his last 10 innings. A bunch of people respond by telling me his average is boosted by not outs. I thought the primary objective of batting is not to get out? Silly me.
Not an Australian network talking about disrespecting cricket at Newlands. I think they forgot that their country's biggest ever cricket scandal happened here after their players disrespected cricket.
And this was the Test they actually cared about 😳
Karma strikes as days after disrespecting cricket, South Africa is bowled out before lunch for a 135-year worst >>
It's a privilege to watch the
@Springboks
at a time in their history when they are so dominant and they bring a country together. There have been some dark times as a Bok fan in the modern era. Appreciate what we're witnessing now.
#savsire
Temba Bavuma fails chronically, there are loud calls to drop him. Aiden Markram fails chronically, there are calls for him to be moved to No.4 or 5. Interesting.
#SAvIND
My moment of the Test was Siya Kolisi stretched every sinew in his body to disrupt what otherwise would have been an easy try. You get some captains who talk and others that do.

Of all the Proteas World Cup exits, this is the worst given the calibre of opposition they needed to beat to progress. An unmitigated coaching failure.

I hope Faf de Klerk gets all the heat that is due to him for compromising his team the way he has. But it will probably be Damian Willemse's fault.
#RugbyChampionship
Aiden Markram has not lost a game as captain at World Cups.
- As the U19 skipper he won 6 from 6
- In 2023 ODI WC he won 2 from 2
Now at the
@T20WorldCup
he has 7 from 7
He is 15-0 in World Cup cricket.
This Proteas Women's team is the real deal. Chasing down the second highest score in World Cup history is some feat. The management of that chase was incredible to watch.
Take a bow Keegan Petersen. That innings was immense in the context of this series. That it came against the world's No 1 Test team, and an attack of this quality, makes it even more special.
#SAvsIND
This Proteas Test team has become the real deal. A series victory over India, held New Zealand in NZ, now thumped England inside 3 days (with half a day washed out) at Lords. Their bowling attack has no equal in the game. Immense effort from the team and coaching staff.
#ENGvsSA
Schalk Burger is so good on TV. I'd absolutely listen to a podcast (independent of Supersport), reaction/analysis YouTube channel, and alternative commentary stream ect. If he was smart, he would build his own media company. The comfort of SuperSport will be his killer.
#NZvsRSA
The Proteas Women as an ODI unit is everything the men aspire to be - composed, tactically intelligent, and clinical in the execution of their game plan.
Morne Morkel made a strong point in commentary today. Said that if you ask any Proteas batter what they have to do better, they'd all give you the right answers. He then said the difference between average batters and elite ones is the ability to execute those answers.
#AUSvsSA
This is virtually the same group of players Mark Boucher had, yet looks a team transformed. They've now won 10 of 14 matches in '23, including 4 of 6 against Australia and 2 of 3 against England. Credit to Rob Walter and his coaching team.

Boks deserved that for the bullshit rugby they've played over two Tests. Rassie must eat the criticism. Tony Brown has taken us away from our national rugby identity. This team needs to go back to what they do best.
#SAVSIRE
Gary Kirsten. 101 Tests. 21 centuries. 34 half centuries. Average touching 46 in an era where world class bowlers were common place. Didn't average below 43 in either Australia, England, India or New Zealand. Averaged 88 in Pakistan. The ultimate warrior.
Based on the findings of the independent investigation,
#AshwinWillemse
owes the nation an apology. It appears a thorough process was followed. He did himself no favours by refusing to be a part of that process.
It's embarrassing how quiet most of the SA cricket media are about how dreadful Boucher has been to date as head coach. I'm not saying fire him. I'm saying be truthful in reflecting his struggle to meet even the basic expectation of an international coach.
What a summer it's been already for the Proteas. Seen off an elite Test and ODI nation and did so with some style and temperament. So good to watch.
#SAvIND
In the wake of South Africa beating India by an innings, and inside 3 days, it's important to remember that they don't play India (or England and Australia) for the remainder of the WTC cycle (ends 2025). That's just not right.
#SAVSIND
David Miller has been the best and most consistent T20 batter in the world for a year. And he's ours. His temperament matches is immense talent now, making him a national treasure.

I covered rugby for nearly 15 years. Saw and heard a million of the craziest things players and staff did in their private lives. It wasn't my job to report on that aspect of their lives. The pressure of profits will turn you into Huisgenoot quickly
#eltonjantjies
An idiot could have figured that spin was the only way to go from the start. Yet the skipper gave his opponents a 60 run head start by persisting with seam. Then brings a 21 year old seamer on, who goes for a further 15. Unbelievable.

Lots of anger from

fans. Dont share your view. This is elite cricket. Momentum ebbs and flows at this level. Whoever grabs it at definitive times in the innings wins. India did that today. Proud of these Proteas.
#T20WorldCup2024
#T20WorldCupFinal
That was so special from
@ProteasMenCSA
. The bowlers excelled, but that batting performance on a wicked wicket should not be underestimated. 2 under pressure batters showed a depth of resolve that will serve them well for the final. On to Barbados. One more step.
@T20WorldCup
If you missed it, Klaasen hit a 6 over backward point off a ball that pitched in line with the return crease. I've seen that less than 5 times in international cricket. Absolutely stupidly brilliant. I left him out of the 11 I'd pick for the World Cup. I was wrong.
#SAvsAUS
I covered
@BlueBullsRugby
impossible Super Rugby win over the Crusaders in '07 at Loftus. I covered them coming from 14-0 down against the Chiefs in the '09 final. I covered them beating a stacked Stormers side in 2010 final. But to beat that Leinster side trumps all at Loftus
Rabada is just 28 years old. His strike rate is phenomenal. But he has also taken 291 Test wickets. He is 203 wickets short of being SA's leading Test wicket taker. But he is unlikely get there there because of the limited Test schedule in the coming years. A cricket tragedy.
Cricket South Africa just sent
@SACricketmag
an entire opinion piece on why the column I wrote on their World Cup exit hurt their feelings. We are going to post it shortly. This, remember, is the body that is supposed to run cricket for an entire country.
CSA announced that players will be forced to kneel 30 minutes before the game. Quinton de Kock makes himself unavailable for selection due to "personal reasons". I'm not saying the two are linked, but it would be hard not to make such a link.
Temba Bavuma averages 63.80 in his last 10 Test innings. That includes 4 innings away in Pakistan. He seems to have found a method that is replicable and highly effective.
That Fourie du Preez never won an IRB Player of the Year award is criminal. There was a period between 2007 and 2011 when he established himself as the greatest 9 of the modern era. The Messi of rugby.
Exactly 14 years ago, the Bulls scored eight tries and beat the Chiefs 61-17 to win their second Super 14 title 🏆
Du Preez, Habana, Matfield, Olivier, Spies and Rossouw all got on the scoresheet 🟦
What will the
@ICC
do about blatant, unwarranted and inexcusable time wasting from Zimbabwe in their batting AND bowling innings? Nothing. Important to remember that India are in our group.
#SAvZIM
That image of Pieter-Steph crying at the final whistle is the defining one of the Test. It spoke to the immense effort of a group of men who were rewarded for the most impossibly brilliant effort.

The
@Springboks
exposed every deficiency the
@lionsofficial
have when they aren't able to execute their box kicking game. They are impotent on attack, lacking any tactical imagination and little x-factor. Limited team that will lose the series comfortably.
#LionsRugby
This is just a fence-sitting caption. Fourie du Preez was the best that's ever played. His range of skills is unmatched by any scrumhalf in any era of the game. He is not only the best 9 ever to play, but one of the top 5 backline players of all time. Come @ me
Its hard not to think that this Bok team is stale and needs a complete overhaul. This is a Australia team that lost to Argentina. They are awful. But the Boks are worse.
#AUSvRSA
Rilee Rossouw being picked in the T20 squad to play England makes the continued omission of Faf du Plessis even more laughable. Both are playing excellent T20 cricket. Faf has being doing so for much longer. Yet he is iced out. Wild.
The excitement around the Rugby World Cup and the Boks has largely shielded the Proteas from any criticism for playing like a club side. Rob Walters came highly rated, yet is looking like another former Titans coach who just doesn't have the answers for international cricket.
The beautiful letdowns are that no more. I've watched so many Stormers teams fold in front of their home crowd. This one broke the cycle in a new, world class home. Congrats to Dobbo and his team. That Bulls team is proper. But they were outplayed in the second half.
#URC
The Mumbai Indians Cape Town paid R850k for Brevis. That's like paying R50 000 for a Lambo. I can't wait to watch him at Newlands with a cold bevvie this coming summer.
Am's defensive skills are exceptional. Reads play beautifully, his spatial awareness is so good, decision-making so sharp. He leads the line exceptionally well from the 13 channel from set play and is composed in organising it in broken field. Love watching him.
The elite athletes across any sport have moments in them that define a contest. They only get one and use it to significantly influence the result. Kolbe is up there with those rare athletes.
#LionsSA2021
@Springboks
Shithouse move from Willie. I get the emotion, and I understand why some Bok supporters applaud this. But the game is done. Reach for humility. Feels like this runs counter to what the team culture is.
Kyle Verreynne got his 23rd first class half century (finished on 87) against the Titans yesterday. He averages 50 in the format. He is only 25 years old. I hope he finds the right Test coach to help his obvious talent soar.
Mumbai Indians Cape Town. A franchise full of really rich players who sometimes care enough to turn up. Given their collective talent, they are comfortably the tourneys biggest flops.
Boucher's friends in the media have had a rough day. He does nothing to aid their cause. He is average and out of his depth. His media friends are talking about the guts the team showed. Silly me, I thought guts was a basic requirement of an international team.
#T20WorldCup2021
Is there a SA cricketer who would benefit more from a "Baz Ball" type philosophy then Aiden Markram? He is a brilliant white ball batter, yet (to date) been so mediocre as a Test player. Redefining his role, batting him at 6, could make all the difference.
Surely Bavuma has to have a swing? Nobody expects him to run quick singles. But contribute to the cause as best you can, esp if Jansen is still at the crease.
Gotta love
@SuperSportTV
asking Pollock to analyse batting techniques, while Ashwill Prince, who averaged 41 in Test cricket, is made to sit and watch him.

Turnaround from an innings defeat in three days, to a 198-run victory took an immense effort from players and leadership. Proteas now drawn a Test series against the WTC champions and beaten the finalists. Upward curve and encouraging to see. Three-Test series would have rocked
Last week's performance was embarrassing. This one is shameful. I struggle to find a Bok player who can be proud of this performance. I can find one who's idiocy cost his team badly. He is the one being defended on my timeline by the same people who defended Pollard last week.
Click, click, boom. The Director of Cricket should invest his energy in things he is paid to do. While the Aussies are analysing soil types to win cricket wins, Enoch Nkwe is writing "opinion" pieces to counter mine. I'm leaving this here ...
OPINION: In coming for me, Enoch Nkwe has tried to defend the indefensible. He has embraced mediocrity, and his teams will be defined by it in big tournaments, writes

Kyle Verreynne's last six 4-Day innings scores: 39,85,51,72, 97, 216*. In the 2019-20 red-ball campaign he scored 551 runs at an average of 55.10 (two 100s, three 50s). How is this still a debate? Play the kid in Test cricket.
I ask once again, what value does Naas, an "iconic" flyhalf who played at a time when his challengers were limited to those deemed worthy by their skin colour, have to add to the education of lovers of this wonderful game?
@Ashwinwillemse

I've spent the last 30mins watching a homeless man groom himself on the steps just outside my office window. In the midst of his suffering, it matters to him that he presents himself in the best way he is able to. It humbled my heart and reminded of our shared humanity. Be kind.
7 years between Bavuma's first Test century and his second. Incredibly hard journey between those. That must be so satisfying. A proud moment for him and those closest to him.
