Left this as a surprise inside my class’ English books today. Treated them to a cartoon and popcorn hour to reward their hard work in SATS. Loved seeing their faces as they realised. What a week!
Been losing hair for years (funnily enough when I started teaching 👀) so I’ve finally taken the plunge and shaved it all off. Feels good to embrace it!
Being a primary school teacher is really weird when you think about it. One minute you’re teaching gymnastics and the next you’re teaching about the Stone Age
Tired of people suggesting teaching in Dubai. Why would I choose to live a teach somewhere that being gay is illegal? Yet alone pay any contribute any sort of money there.
Girl in my class today to me when I was a bit flustered and busy;
“Mr Saunderson it’s okay, when I feel like it’s too much I breath in deep and think happy thoughts. I’ll do it with you”
How gorgeous 💚💚
Over heard some boys playing with Lego men in my class during wet play this week:
Boy 1: this one is gay haha
Boy 2: yeah but you know that’s it’s okay to be gay
Boy 1: I know it is!
How cute! 🧡
Honestly though, if I’d have watched Hearstopper at 16 if would’ve given me so much comfort and hope.
I’m so glad it’s there for younger LGBT+ people. I mean this scene alone!
Very proud moment in work today with organising a pride celebration for the whole school. It was such a positive vibe and the children and their families have been so supportive!
Happy pride everyone 🏳️🌈💚
How you know I’m a primary school teacher? When someone asks me what my ideal type is and the answer is Liam the Park Keeper from the KS1 2019 Reading SATS
Money in Y2 - told my class they can decorate biscuits tomorrow if they choose ingredients that equal £1.
Loved seeing them so enthused and using their bonds to 100 fluently.
Can’t wait to make the biscuits tomorrow!
So happy to hear I’ll be KS1 lead from September with some other leadership responsibilities!
Was a hard one at work today telling the kids and parents that I’ll be leaving my current school in July. Going to miss the families so much.
Had a major confidence wobble in teaching recently for many reasons but I’m so happy to see some of my little ones produce this work from a open ended picture today. Shows me I am doing the right thing!
Our school is celebrating pride this month. Also, each class has been allocated a team to follow through the Euros (ours was Wales).
One of the boys in my year 2 class: “omg Mr Saunderson the door is you - it’s Welsh and a gay!” 🙈😂
My open ended continuous provision room for Year 2 is near enough done. So lucky to have an extra room for continuous provision and interventions especially for year 2! Looking forward to getting started 🥰
Was joking with a child in my class before and said “and just who do you think you’re talking to” and he responded with “you and your river island socks”. Read for filth 🤣😅
Imagine if this emphasis on the importance of children’s mental health and security was there when Sure Start centres were closed, free school meals were denied and schools’ budgets were slashed
Went into school today to work on my new continuous provision space (this was a library when I started!). Stone Age in History and Rocks and Crystals in Science. Lots of opportunity for classifying and investigating. Love having this space. Learning through play in KS2!
My teaching career is quite visually and mathematically pleasing
1st year: reception
2nd year: reception
3rd year: reception
4th year: year 1
5th year: year 2
6th year: year 2
7th year: year 2
8th year: year 3
We’ve been writing facts files after learning about owls in Year 2 and I asked a boy in my class to “include a sentence with but in it”. He comes back to me 5 minutes later and says “Did you want me to write a sentence about my butt or the owl’s butt?”
I love KS1.
Today in school;
Teaching maths when a mouse pops his head out of a hole in the wall near where I sit. I scream. The mouse then freaks and runs into my spare shoes the other end of the classroom.
Don’t think I’ve seen the kids laugh so much. I’ll never live this down 🤣
