Congratulations, Dad!!!
Happy retirement!
My dad has been with UPS since just a couple weeks after I was born. It's the reason why I grew up in Louisville.
Can't believe the day has finally arrived.
Please, please, please DO NOT depend on
#tornado
sirens to get your weather alerts.
Tornado sirens ARE NOT designed to be heard indoors. Period.
Have a NOAA Weather Radio with battery backup in alert mode in your home. It’s as important as a smoke detector.
Returning to work today after losing my brother
@caseycreates
last week has been tough. Remembering Casey’s joy & the fun we had makes it better. I keep playing this video of when my dad
@AeroSavvy
surprised Casey at DFW airport a few years ago as he was flying home. Pure bliss.
It’s been a tough day. Today marks one year since my younger brother passed away. I miss him and wish I could go back a year to undo what happened. He was such a light in this world and touched so many through his advocacy and volunteerism. I love you, Casey. ❤️
@caseycreates
Two years ago today my brother
@caseycreates
passed away. He was so talented and kind, and made the best chicken tortilla soup you could ever dream of.
I’m happy we got to spend 21 years growing up together. His art and activism inspired me, even if I was the older brother. ❤️

6 months. And I still can’t shake off what happened. I miss him so much. My brother
@caseycreates
made this world a better place and it feels emptier without him. He’ll live on in the art and love he left behind, but shock and sadness will still take more time to process. ❤️

Mysterious object on radar just northwest of Evansville, IN, moving almost straight south. It's likely a large flock of migrating birds (sandhill cranes?) but it's a strong, tight radar signature for sure!
Several Snow Squall Warnings across the Northeast now.
A Snow Squall Warning is a new product from the National Weather Service that warns of whiteout conditions that make travel dangerous.
WAVE 3 News is fully prepared to air these warnings this winter!
Horrifying stats from the KY governor’s press conference right now regarding this morning’s

outbreak.
• 50-100 dead in KY (est.)
• Death toll may surpass the 1974 Super Outbreak in the state
• Folks from Louisville are on the road right now to lend a hand in Mayfield
12 YEARS AGO TODAY I was named "Most Likely to Become a Meteorologist" in an online weathercast contest for kids from
@weatherchannel

This is a message from Casey’s brother
@RyanHokeWAVE3
:
My younger brother
@caseycreates
(Casey Hoke) passed away yesterday in the Los Angeles, CA area. My family is heartbroken. We ask for privacy, but at the same time want to make sure Casey’s friends and connections know.

Thanks to

Something I never thought I would have to see in my lifetime living in the Northeast, A multi vortex wedge tornado. Burlington Township NJ from earlier today.

I want to say thank you to the heroes working in healthcare right now.
Tonight I tested positive for COVID-19 and will be off the air for a bit. I am mildly symptomatic and hope to work from home this week.
I still get a little star-struck when I’m able to spend time with WAVE’s first chief meteorologist Tom Wills. I watched him while growing up in Louisville and first met him while presenting my 7th grade science fair project at UofL. What a fun evening of conversation!
My dad
@AeroSavvy
flew my grandfather and me up to Columbus, IN for breakfast this morning.
The cool, dense air got us up off the runway quickly! 🛫

My dad (
@AeroSavvy

16 years ago today I appeared on
@wave3news
for the first time.
I was a sophomore at Manual HS who nervously asked John Belski if he would allow me to come into the station for a job shadow. Not only did he bring me in, but he put 16-year-old me on TV! The rest is history. :)
A U.K.-based outlet just picked up the story of my brother’s passing. This is intense. So much emotion right now. My family & I never expected this. Any of this. And all I want to do right now is drive Casey down to Claremont for a lavender latte and some thrift store shopping.
My dad
@AeroSavvy
flew my grandparents and me to Terre Haute, IN this morning for breakfast.
We were LUCKY to be cleared to fly through SDF’s approach path over Downtown Louisville (not busy this AM), offering rare views of the south side of downtown from above. (1/4)

Just over 5 months since I lost my amazing brother
@caseycreates
. I think about him every day, but today is special because I’m wearing one of his ties. 💙💖💙👔
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄
Day 6 of
#COVID19
is going far better than Days 1 & 2. Starting to regain hints of taste & smell while battling minor fatigue. Fortunate to have mild symptoms!
Many thanks to healthcare & other frontline workers who are working this holiday.

This is cool! Ronald K Smith, Jr found a fallstreak hole today. This is caused by an airplane flying through a cloud layer full of supercooled water, which causes the water to freeze into ice crystals and fall out of the cloud, creating a hole. ☁️✈️

@AeroSavvy
took my grandfather and me on a little adventure this morning. Flew to KLEX (Lexington) to practice an ILS approach and then went to KBRY (Bardstown) to get some gas.
Loved being up close with the billowing cumulus and showers. Beautiful!

Atlantic hurricane names aren’t exclusively English because storms impact parts of the Caribbean & Central America that speak Spanish & French.
Learning how to say

may be tough, but there are likely English hurricane names that are tough for non-English speakers, too. 🤷♂️
Today is my 5th anniversary at

It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be in my hometown doing what I've dreamed of doing since I was 5 years old. Here's to many more anniversaries!
From about ~5,000ft over Simpsonville, KY this morning. Low ceilings, but an amazing view above the clouds! Thanks for keeping us out of the turbulence below,
@AeroSavvy

Today would have been my brother
@caseycreates
’s 22nd birthday. I miss him so very much and can’t believe it’s already been nearly 8 months since we lost him. I wish I could turn back the clock... ❤️🎂
10 YEARS AGO TONIGHT a very nervous 19-year-old Ryan Hoke began his broadcast weather career in Jackson, Tennessee.
So much has changed in a decade, but I can't tell you how lucky I am to be doing what I love at the station I grew up watching here at home in
#Louisville
! 📺
Remember my new airport code socks from yesterday? The ones that seemingly had every airport code on them except SDF?
To my surprise
@airport_dw
dropped off a couple pairs of
@FlyLouisville
socks at the station this afternoon! What a guy! Thanks again, Darrell!

to my grandfather. He was a navigator on the Air Force’s KC-97 tanker aircraft in the 1950s. He later went on to have a successful career in electrical engineering and can still fix your radio or tube TV like a pro - because he designed them! 🇺🇸✈️📺

15 years ago this week I started a dinky weather website as a sophomore at Manual High School in

to get a head start in meteorology.
I recorded weekly forecast videos & a daily blog.
You gotta start small!
Here's a forecast video I recorded back in January 2009.
