๐๐We did not have long to wait. Today the Bank of England has confirmed that the recent budget has resulted in businesses stopping employment and raising prices which has created higher inflation, reduced growth and stalled the economy.
๐๐Government has made its choices, and the result will be higher prices, higher inflation, lower employment, lower growth and lower corporation tax receipts. Inevitably some will say this will not happen. Just wait.

@MCrothall I know of hotels who are creating pricing strategies to obtain room price increases of 15-20% in 2025 and food and beverage price increases of 10-15%. These increases are needed to remain viable but at what level do customers stop buying or Scotland is perceived as expensive?

@ali_payne X can be the worse place to voice opinions which are controversial to vested interests. Iโve taken a position on a subject which goes against localism decisions and is marketed as not affecting locals, then the pile on starts. Keep voicing your views.

Did the government honestly believe that increasing Employers NI would have no impact on businesses recruiting extra staff, no impact on decisions to expand, and no impact on growth? Really hard to believe that they thought that, but then again perhaps not. @RachelReevesMP

@JamesMelville And in the US the tax free amount of inheritance is $13.6m. Yes you read that correctly.

@kspence67 @AasmahMir Itโs not alcohol duty that is the issue. Hospitality businesses will raise prices to mitigate higher Employer National Insurance and the increase in National Minimum Wage. Mortgage costs will rise because the yield on gilts has risen.

@TomJohnston52A Very strange that they only post a few โlukewarmโ opinions on the budget, yet they โlikeโ comments or โrepostโ other posts which criticise the budget.

View on ยฃ1m limit for passing farms to next generation on death. A few tractors, a combine harvester, a uni loader, trailers, a muck spreader and a bailer will value at ยฃ1m before the farm land and buildings value is taken into account. This is dire for farmers. @JamesMelville

@NickNairn After yesterdayโs budget, the prospects for hospitality are dire. It was anti-business, anti-aspirational, anti-entrepreneurial and anti-growth. In hospitality the results will be reduced recruitment, reduced pay increases, more automation, higher prices and failed businesses.
