Like a kid who loves trips to the lollipop shop, I looked for one of my favourite African beers in Maputo and grabbed it like my life depended on it in the local Shoprite.🤣🤣🤣 I call it by its sticker name, 2M, which stands for MacMahon, but Mozambicans call it Dois M. It is crisp and tastes so good, you should try it. You will not be disappointed. I first tasted it in 1993 in Chimoio, then came across it again in 2013 when I was with ITV News, chasing the story of corrupt Lebanese businessmen who were buying looted diamonds from Chiadzwa through top army generals, and liked it a lot. 2M was crowned Grand Champion at the African Beer Awards in 2015, a testament to its quality and appeal. Let us trade together as Africans and support each other’s products so that we can grow our economies and not rely on Western aid. The original MacMahon brewery, which inspired the name 2M, no longer exists as an independent entity. The beer is now produced by Cervejas de Moçambique, which continues the legacy. I also got Txilar, brewed by the same company that makes 2M. I have never tried it, so I am looking forward to reporting back. Have a lovely evening!
