A long time ago, in an office not far away. a small group of twenty-somethings created Tomb Raider. We hoped it would be a success, but never envisaged how successful, so it is truly amazing to see the remaster allowing fans to continue enjoying our game all these years later!

With all the nostalgia floating around, here's a picture of me on holiday in China in 1997 about 6 months before the release of TR2. Only I knew the significance of visiting the Great Wall with Lara at that point!

Well I did it, I just completed my first ever full playthrough of Tomb Raider 1, using the Remaster on Switch. It was quite the nostalgia trip, and kind of awesome to finally experience the game as a player! I learnt a few interesting things along the way.

Looks like Aspyr have done a nice job with this remaster. Meanwhile I'm wondering if 28 years is long enough that I'd be able to play my own games for fun!.

*LOVE* the fact that @AspyrMedia collaborated with members of the TR community to make the Remaster! So now @XProger_san and the others have seen the code and know Winston's true personality.

Overall it was a lot of fun even if pretty unforgiving in many places (we took no prisoners on making players figure stuff out for themselves!) and I had to resort to Stella's walkthrough a few times, and broke Natla's Mines. Now TR2? Maybe after a break. .

I remembered all the early levels in quite a lot of detail. I must have spent about 6 months running round City of Vilcabamba being chased by wolves during development! But even so, I didn't know most of the secrets or where enemies had been placed.

From Tomb of Tihocan (which I wasn't sure I'd ever played) onwards, I don't think I'd ever really played the full levels: we were too busy trying to get the game finished, so I just knew the bits related to whatever I needed to get working.

I tried the various controls, and ended up playing entirely using the Dpad. Apparently there was still some latent muscle memory. Everytime I touched the thumbsticks my mind instantly switched to "modern controls", but I didn't find the actual modern controls worked for me in TR.

@JackMills360 Ha, we were a close knit team and were told without warning that some American dude was going to make an expansion to our game about a day before he arrived. So we were like WTF, and were initially less friendly than our normal selves, but we eventually helped him out 🙂.

@mikegalsworthy They told Leavers they'd "get Brexit done" on the 31st, so they now need to pretend it was done. They clearly think people are dumb enough to believe it too. Sadly they may be right.

@LKTranslator Actually if we'd done that, Labour wouldn't have been in power and a Tory government would have taken us into Iraq anyway. And the US was going in with or without us and they certainly wouldn't have listened to Corbyn.

@Baddiel I think the Chief Medical Officer and his experts do know, but no-one likes what they are saying - which is there is no hiding from this, you are probably going to get it, and all we can do is mitigate the peak to try and minimise the deaths.

@MikeH_PR The problem is that one side knows that you can lie without consequences to ill-informed members of the public to get their vote. And once in power you can then do whatever you like until the next election, when you lie again. Helps to have the mainstream media on board.

@NeoRetroDiaries @cnhyv Lara was only ever a dude when Toby first pitched his idea to Jeremy (head of Core) at his interview AFAIK. Jeremy told him it was too like Indy, so he went off and came up with Lara to be as different as possible. For the rest of us, TR always had Lara.

@cswheatley @williamnhutton You don't HAVE to do something stupid just because you voted for it. You CAN change your mind when you can see something is going to be rubbish. Brexit is a Tory con - it was all lies - and we don't need to suffer 25 years to work that out.

A few things. Only "Croft" came from the phonebook. Therefore, no "real Lara Croft" out there somewhere. The mansion wasn't based on Core Design's offices - it was an analgam of images of Georgian manor houses from a reference book. (1/x).

@campbellclaret The problem is that they don't have a coherent strategy. "Herd immunity/protect vulnerable" made sense, but they had to actually *do* stuff to make it work e.g. actually protect the vulnerable, and test to control the spread.

@carljackmiller Yes we need to move to consensus building politics rather than confrontational win/lose style. I also think Sortition (election by random selection rather than voting) has a lot to recommend it too. Our political system attracts the wrong type of people for running a country.

@Andrew_Adonis Given South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong have way better control than us WITHOUT nationwide lockdowns, it suggests we could be a lot more intelligent in our approach than "hiding under the bed" because nothing in the graphs is suggesting this is an effective strategy.

@pmdfoster A massive issue in all this is that 500k people die in the UK every year normally. And as this mainly hits the old and frail, it is very likely there is a large overlap between people who will die of Covid and people who would have died anyway.
