Dragon Quarter is the controverial 5th game in the Breath of Fire series that abandoned everything people loved about the series in favor of a design that's closer to Resident Evil than a standard JRPG (I really like the game though, but it's extremely divisive for a good reason)

Playing Ocarina of Time as a kid is what started my love for pre-rendered backgrounds actually. Some areas being in a completely different art style was always so mysterious to me, and once I got older and started playing non-Nintendo games I became obsessed with this style.

I played Illusion of Gaia last year and it has 40 collectibles hidden throughout the whole game in incredibly obscure places that are almost impossible to find on your own, but there is a guide to finding all of them in the game's manual.

A lot of people don't seem to understand this, but just because I prefer the aesthetic of old pre-rendered backgrounds does not mean I think PS5 games are bad looking. I just really like the aesthetic of old pre-rendered backgrounds.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was like that just to discourage people from renting the game, but it really got me thinking about how important the manual is to a lot of older games, and how the lack of manuals for old games has affected some games' reputation as too hard

I think NPCs are one of the key things that make video games stand out from other storytelling mediums, and with well written NPCs you can make a game world feel even more alive than any book or movie

Because Japan is a mysterious distant land with an impossible to learn language (so it's also impossible to check if speaker is legit or not). Therefore we have to conclude all japanese speakers are either localisers (evil) or genuine japanese people (good guys)

I understood it was less about the anime aesthetic and more just that it was a late PS1 release and had way more text than the first two games, so Namco went the cheap route and removed all story from the western release so they could get it out before PS2's launch.

Ishikawa did not come from Type Moon. She did work with Nasu on CCC so it's not incorrect per se and I'm sure Nasu had influence on her writing, but the reason she worked on CCC was because Fate/Extra was developed by Image Epoch and she was a writer at IE.

The Cold Steel games always get a lot of hate for being harem waifu trash, but actually Ao is a lot worse in that regard yet it gets praised to high heavens.
The reason for this hypocrisy is because Lloyd, Randy and Wazy are so hot that everyone forgets Crossbell even has girls.

Trails through Daybreak is an incredible game and if you think it looks cool you should give it a try whether you've played a Trails game before or not. You will miss out on the context for certain moments, but not to the degree that it would significantly impact your enjoyment.

I was actually stuck on the Meryl part for ages (though it was on Twin Snakes, not the original) as a kid because I did not know enough english to understand what Campbell was telling you to do
It is a really clever trick but it made me feel dumb when I finally understood it.

However due to PSP's hardware limitations, P3P has all of its cutscenes in VN style dialogue, the town overworld is completely gone (replaced by a simple menu) and the epilogue added to FES is missing

That's true for the backgrounds when viewed in the game itself, but the pre-rendered backgrounds and assets look incredible when viewed in their original resolution (though sadly not many games have made them available in their original resolution due to poor preservation)

Etrian Odyssey on the other hand is a dungeon crawling series on DS and 3DS where you use the touch screen to draw your own maps of the dungeons. EO3 in particular is one of my favorite games of all time
