In case you’re wondering how Trump supporters are taking the news rn, the crowd is breaking out into chants of “we won” and singing “we are the champions”
Police have cordoned off access to PolyU, will not allow press in to the campus unless you’re relieving someone inside. Mixed reports of the truth of that as well. Serious decline of press freedoms in Hong Kong today
Just thinking back to TWO DAYS AGO when Trump said of Biden on the debate stage: “I don’t wear a mask like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 ft away from him and he shows up w the biggest mask I’ve ever seen”

: On the day of the Capitol riot, US Park Police staff were also overwhelmed by protesters. Some had to take cover in the Washington Monument. Records and interviews show they've understaffed and under resourced for yrs
its rly wild how much time u spend chasing stuff as a reporter that you can't QUITE prove but know is true my posthumous memoir is gonna be called an ode to all the shit i know went down you can't sue me for libel when im dead
The church took precautions like masks backstage and temp checks. But performing / rehearsing are the real risks and when masks weren’t worn. Since the virus can spread asymptomatically, an expert told us they should have all self quarantined. Instead they performed for the VP.
Mitch McConnell’s face is not something I expected to see in HK ever? But here we are at
#CUHK
w an appeal for him to schedule a vote in Senate on HK human rights and democracy act
After spending a couple months reporting on the HK protests and watching more and more tear gas filling the air, I went back to the states to learn more about one of the factories supplying it to police
Last yr I was with protesters in Hong Kong as they stormed the legislative building. It was an insane night but one of protesters’ 5 demands was the ability to elect all their leaders!!!! Not trying to shut down election results! Pls stop w ur bad HK/US comparison takes
I was filming this arrest w my phone and cops grabbed me on my arm and pushed me back w batons. You can see officer’s baton in the video coming at me over and over again “you don’t need to push me I’m press” I’m yelling

Maxwell Wong, 22, has been walking around the airport helping ppl handle flight cancellations and explaining the background of the protests if they ask. “This is our city, this is what we have to do,” he said.
Reading about Hong Kong developments from NY today and thinking of how many young kids I interviewed last year who were willing to do whatever it took to protect their city. This is a sad day and there are likely so many more brutal days to come.
In October I requested all the reports that the MTR had to submit to the government for its station closures since the protests started. I just got those back and found that many of the closures came directly from police
After a week of early MTR closures to fix damage from protests, I wrote about how some ppl saw it as a curfew. Current MTR workers also told me they didn’t see technical reasons for the early shutdowns
Another protest in HK - today the anti- global totalitarianism march. Protesters passing by Wan Chai carrying world flags as riot police are inside the mtr station
NEW: Before VP Pence spoke at a Baptist megachurch in Dallas this weekend, there was a cluster of COVID cases in the choir and orchestra. Then they performed without masks. W/

Undeterred, protesters start another huge fire on the CUHK side of the bridge, and dozens start to walk back over the bridge carrying new barriers and supplies
I just got to the TCF center in Detroit where ballots are still being counted. Trump party / republican election challengers are outside concerned about fraud and don’t believe Trump has lost MI yet. Armed police are guarding where ppl are still counting ballots
I rode around bklyn last night to talk to ppl setting off fireworks. I found groups of friends having fun, a fireworks dealer in the street who said they had a high resell value, block parties and a pair of cops who were idly watching. No big conspiracy!
A pastor is trying to negotiate with police to be able to send one or two reps into the campus, view the situation and give parents more info about their kids trapped inside. So far police have declined. “We’ll keep trying” he told me.
Back on bridge. We’ve reached the point where they’re putting the javelins to use. (Earlier this afternoon the shot puts were being used to break apart bricks. )
Despite police warnings, mtr closures and riot police stationed around the city this am, big crowds are out protesting in HK again on 10/1 National Day
Social workers are trying to march forward to the police, theyre holding their registration cards in the air, hoping to talk w police about the humanitarian situation of students inside

Airport security v confused why I have a ballistic vest, med kit, helmet and respirator in my carry on bag. “Are you law enforcement ?”
“Uh Im a reporter”
A Biden/Harris supporter has come to raise his sign in front of the capital and ppl are surrounding him w Trump signs chanting “four more years” and “stop the steal”
Some of heaviest tear gas I’ve seen in part bc this standoff is taking place in a small area, police still on bridge and protesters only a few meters back. They’re doing best w leaf blower to clear all the tear gas smoke
Pam Murdock, 52 told me her message to Trump today was not to lose faith and that God has a plan. On Biden winning, she said “you can’t catch someone stealing unless you let them leave the store”
Over the past couple weeks I spent time at

as universities turned into fortresses in Hong Kong and some of the most violent days of the protests unfolded. Here is the whole wild tale of what happened
Mackenzie Dickens, 32, told me he came out to the rally today to show that Biden/Harris did lose the state and that there aren’t only Trump supporters in Michigan
This is nowhere near the full length but here’s how protesters are physically blocking the Departure gate tonight while chanting
“Fight for freedom stand w HK”
After I got pushed back couldn’t see rest of what happened. Police cleared queens rd of journalists too, moved us onto side st, was filming for a few secs when this police officer was screaming and shoving me, he also kicked me
Ran into this music group from Portugal trying to make it to Tokyo for the next stop of their music tour. They said they don’t have Twitter :/ but their group is called Tuna medicina porto
It’s 1am in HK and there’s still a human supply chain of protesters passing supplies to each other as they hold down bridge to CUHK that was earlier occupied by riot police
Just arriving to the George Floyd memorial in Cadman Plaza. Starting a new thread for the day’s protests. Outside the park ppl are handing out free hand sanitizer, fruit and water
I can’t tell how far away the police line is but protesters are still pushing up the bridge, have def reached the point where police were earlier. Bridge is still full of fire, bricks, tear gas
NEW from me: an internal transcript of a staff meeting at Memorial Sloan Kettering shows at least three patients and five employees of the cancer hospital have tested positive for COVID-19 while the facility has only a one week supply of masks
Still lots of ppl occupying the bridge. Im headed home for the night. If you are a student/admin/staff at CUHK and wanna talk Im

I spoke w Kristen Woodward, who drove 5 and a half hours from NJ to visit the Trump House on Election Day after seeing it featured on Fox. She brought her ventriloquist dummy, George, to take photos with (he’s also a Trump supporter).
I’m back at CUHK today and students are still in prep mode, supplies still coming in. If you wanna quick roundup of what went down last night, here’s my write up.
No one here seems phased at all by the fact that the race was called for Biden. The running theme of speeches / talking to ppl here is the vote was fraudulent and Trump will prevail. Here’s the crowd chanting “we love you” to Trump from earlier
Prayer session outside TST police station “praying for peace in this city” as riot police start running through street behind them and black tear gas flag is raised bizarre scene rn
I cant explain how surreal it is to follow a Univ principle past a burnt out car, a fire and a line of protesters so he can give statement about his negotiations w police who fired tons of tear gas at the athletic field and made aggressive arrests here
Here’s Jim, who declined to give his last name but said he had worked as a poll challenger in Wayne County, MI and believed it was improper he couldn’t watch the signature verification process. He wants to tell Trump to “hang in there”
Police descending on protesters who were completely peaceful. Completely chaos. People screaming. Police grabbed my arms and tried to cuff me but let me go when I showed my press pass.
I legit don’t even know how they did this but protesters just carried the burnt out car that was on fire earlier this afternoon to the bridge?? And added it to the barrier, and cheered when they lifted it and tipped it on its side
Spoke to a couple of the other ppl inside here who said police had to haul out about 8 Republican election challengers throughout the day. Many were taking detailed notes or disruptive to the vote counting process, sometimes crowding around workers
A protester just came down the street w a chainsaw revving, walking toward where police are stationed— a group of protesters stopped him, convinced him to put it down, turn it off and encircled him in a huge hug
Here’s an inside look at what it’s been like to report on America’s largest chain of psych hospitals– they hired lawyers, launched a $100k crisis pr plan and went after employees
NEW: I obtained 500 internal emails showing state cannabis officials repeatedly raised flags to Gov. Hochul about the rollout and that the state was making a poor deal with a private equity group to finance vulnerable licensees. The deal went ahead anyway.
Theme of “eye for an eye” here still going strong on day 5 of the airport protests. Reference is to a woman who was hit in the eye w a bean bag bullet on Sun
Hello from Lansing, Michigan where a pro-Trump crowd is chanting “Four More Years” in front of the state capital about an hour after the race has been called for Biden
What I found was low-paid workers making and assembling the tear gas all by hand— even down to the screen printing on the canisters. For $9.50 an hour, they’re working with hazardous chemicals out of metal shipping containers where severe fires have broken out
Here’s another long line of voters still going strong in Allegheny county- more of a Dem stronghold- w 2 hours to go til polls close. There’s a table of free pizza and water and coffee as it gets dark and the temp drops
Here’s Kevin Skinner, founder of Stand Up Michigan, who organized anti-lockdown protests in the state earlier this year. He’s calling for ppl to keep showing up at the Capitol every day at noon. “We’re not going to give up on our President Donald Trump!” he says to cheers.
