If you take issue with an allotment, then the same mindset can be applied to all market gardens within the UK that all require similar infrastructure. Are we going to switch to a 100% imported diet and export our problems as we have done for the last 70 years?

We have plans for building a space for humans and nature to thrive, we wanted to ensure that we had a positive effect on the location's biodiversity. We got help from local ecologists to understand the area and any wildlife that may be present..

This is farmland that’s been used for agricultural purposes classified as modified grassland. Soil conditions are on average 2.5% organic matter heavily bacterially dominated. Once OM falls below 2% it can mean bad things for any sort of soil food web that may be existing.

We are going to create a wildlife corridor at the bottom and top of the site. The reality is that woodland sits at the bottom of our proposed site and directly next to us is a road and a field which is already deer fenced.

There is even plastics in expensive bagged compost, and even rotted cow manure. We got the 1st load removed from site due to the amount of plastic in it and have found a new supplier who can screen to a much smaller size.

Allotments do not require planning permission when set up on agricultural land because horticulture is a practise within agriculture. This land is classified as modified grassland that has been used for grazing cattle and in previous years ploughed to grow crops.

Leigh Woods is not an SSSI. It’s a nature reserve. The closest SSSI to our site is actually Ashton Court Golf Course funnily enough.
Here’s how allotments compare to Nature Reserves (NR) for pollinators. A study across 4 cities by Bristol Uni.
