@BNArchive People forget that large numbers of the #Romany & #Traveller community - already #itinerant workers - made up a large percentage of the seasonal #hoppickers ... this can be evidenced from the hundreds of baptisms around the month of September each year in the hoppicking areas

@RomaniHistory Putting your opinion forward as fact and speaking for everyone, benefits no one. A conversation does need to be had regarding the GRT term, but telling someone they are wrong and racist is not the way to go about this.

@RomaniHistory @PhDSmith1 Iām sorry to raise this point but being Romani is not only via genetic markers ā¦ while this may be true for the male haplogroup being passed down over generations, throw in a daughter and that it is lost. DNA is not quite this simple ā¦

@jfkeeler I know nothing about the man, but a lot of people who attempt cultural misappropriation - especially of Romani/Romany - like to throw in well known surnames in their own name to make people believe they are who they say they are .. that's why I asked about "Lovell"

@jfkeeler Is the tree something you would be wiling to share? or surnames you've discovered at the very least? I would at least be able to give you an idea then. Lovell is a well known English/Welsh Romany name, but it's also a common name in the country ... is he saying that is his line?
