Since X appears to be silencing #BassemYoussef on what happens to be first day of the DNC, I wanted to share this story - I was lucky enough to get to work with Bassem as a writer/director for a YouTube/F* Comedy program. He consulted on our sketches (mine was called Guntown) and all of his suggestions were spot on. They unquestionably made all of our work stronger. He was such an inspiring person to work with. A surgeon-turned-comedian who had such a clear voice in the exact style of smart political satire I am such a fan of.  He then made this DNC-themed sketch about 2016 Bernie supporters going to the DNC in hopes of a floor fight. Since I was both a Bernie supporter and documenting the delegates making these plans, I got an invitation to participate.  At the time I remember thinking the perspective of the sketch was very cynical. The premise was a boot camp for revolution and he was laughing at us for thinking that we could just participate in this democratic process and achieve our desired outcome. The joke was that we were unprepared to actually fight power.  Bassem laughingly asks: "So wait, you're going to the DNC to create a revolution and you don't have weapons and no corporate cash? Aweee, you are so innocent!" Nearly 10 years later, I look back on that sketch and understand how much better Bassem understood the US government and what we were up against than we did. How could he not living in a country like Egypt with the United States history of regime change and repression? Everything he said was correct.  We were naive about the entire system. Naive enough to believe that 4 years later being better organized would change the outcome of a rigged process controlled from the top down. Naive enough to believe that these systems could be changed through something as simple as voting or as painless as "making our voices heard".  Now here we all sit. In the middle of a genocide perpetrated by the Democratic party. In the middle of two US-instigated wars. The DNC is happening again and the party has a candidate THAT NOT ONE OF US VOTED FOR. They intentionally deprived us of a primary and circumvented democracy. Thousands of protesters are in the streets of Chicago as the DNC pushes through a platform with 28 references to Israel and not a word about an arms embargo, recognition of a Palestinian state or even a ceasefire state after more than 10 months of the most depraved livestreamed mass slaughter in history. Israel/America have been expanding attacks into Lebanon and Yemen and attempting to instigate war with Iran. For most of us, our niaevity regarding our country is dead and buried beneath the million+ body count it has created in 2 years of proxy wars.  Bassem has been a strong voice for Palestine with an impressive reach. He is an incisive critic of Empire and an incredible comedic talent. The last thing we need are social media platforms censoring voices like Bassem' - his words are needed now more than ever. #bassemyoussef @elonmusk Bring back @byoussef

This is feeling like it's really it! I mean if I was Russia I wouldn't let the UK anywhere near my border considering how much escalation was pushed by them... But the fact that he's saying no NATO for Ukraine, that article 5 of NATO would not apply if any European troops were to be harmed and that NATO as an alliance would in no way be involved in security guarantees would be a massive deterrent from any UK action considering how absolutely fucked their military is. I don't expect any of these countries to ever play nicely... After all, look what they're doing in Gaza. They are without morality. But I would assume that any rational European actor would understand that Russia could destroy them and would go back to their corner and let this whole regime change/break up Russia fantasy go. At least one can hope 🤞
