So proud of Oliver signing his first Pro Youth Contract with
@officialdafcYA
He's come along way since starting playing football for East End Boys 2012s in 2019. In those 4 years he has shown incredible resilience when others (me) would have given up.
Hard work starts now 💪⚽️
Absolutely 1st class
@RFC_Youth
experience for Finlay today down at
@ManUtd
Academy. Coaching sessions from both teams 👌, lunch and then brilliant games between the 2 sides. A lot of top talent on show and great to see Finlay loving his football. 👏
Wee man proud to captain
@RFC_Youth
2015s yesterday and then play brilliant games against
@CelticFC
and
@NUFC
with 2014s today. Hat-trick against Celtic for his Mum. 💙
Sensational Saturday watching Finlay win the Glasgow Cup with
@RFC_Youth
. All the Rangers lads were excellent. Loved watching him deal with intensity and pressure of competitive tournament. Winning is great but seeing my boy smiling and loving his football means so much more. 💙
Incredible weekend for Finlay
@RvPersietournam
. So many highlights on the pitch captaining his team to wins over
@BVB
and
@PSG_inside
but also off the pitch bonding with his ⚽ pals.💙Big thanks to
@RFC_Youth
for providing him with such an amazing opportunity🙌
@Persie_Official
Happy 10th Birthday Oliver. Incredibly proud of you.Not many boys born in last 1/4 of year are selected to play academy football.Each week you are working hard,practising constantly to improve. We all know the academy journey is a tough 1 but you are giving it everything. ⚽️🖤🤍
Happy 9th Birthday to my wee
@RFC_Youth
superstar. Incredibly proud of everything you do both on and off the pitch. Keep working hard, having fun and pinging that ball around in centre mid like your hero

Some Dad's get taken out for expensive meals on Father's Day. I get taken for a kick about at St. Andrews beach in the rain. Wouldn't have it any other way. 🙌⚽️ 💙
Brilliant day for Finlay and his ⚽️ pals winning the 3v3 Scottish Cup
@TheEdinburghCup
Lads won all their group games before stepping it up another level in semi and final.Scottish ⚽️ needs more of this. Small sided games and a competitive tournament where kids can win a 🏆 💙
Champagne Supernova weekend for Finlay.Saturday captaining

@ManCityAcademy
scoring 4 goals.On Sunday playing a year up with Rangers 2014s and again scoring 4 goals in 2 wins v City.Always a great test against
@premierleague
academy sides. 🙌⚽️
What a weekend for Finlay winning the 3v3 tournament at St George’s Park, home of
@England
🏴 national team. Amazing place to play football and brilliant tournament with lots of top talent on show. Finlay delighted to win and bring the 🏆 home to Scotland 🙌🏆⚽️
Season 23/24 ✅ Been a great year of football for both lads with
@RFC_Youth
and
@officialdafcYA
lots of great games, learning experiences and most importantly fun. Time for a break, family time and watch
@ScotlandNT
win the Euros 🏆🙌
This boy is a top talent and great news that he's staying at Rangers. 👏 Finlay loves watching him play and is a big inspiration. In Spain, 16 year olds are playing for the national team but social media here judging the boy on how young he looks. 🙈 Definitely one to watch. 🙌
🔵🔐 Rangers top prospect Alexander Smith close to agreeing first professional contract at the club valid until June 2027.
He’s elegible for USA & Scotland national teams.
Rangers fought off strong interest from PL and MLS to keep him, top priority for the board and Clement.
When Finlay plays English academies it amazes me how much coaching the boys get from their parents 🙈 Boys looking for their next instruction from their dad rather than listening to a coach or looking to get on the ball.
#letthemplay
Happy Birthday Leanne. Being a ⚽️ mum can mean very little free time for you but boys appreciate everything you do for them and the support you give them all over Scotland. 💙
Great watch on relative age effect. Hopefully academies within Scottish football can continue to look at this issue and support quarter 4 birth players with their long term development 🤞
2022 was another great year for the Sandeman boys ⚽ Lots of goals, hard work but most importantly both having fun. Ready to go again in 2023. Happy New Year ⚽️
Start of holiday. Have a break from football lads, rest your legs and relax.
Day 2 (and every day after) non stop football in 35 degrees. Giving the Germans, Dutch and Spanish kids the run around. Mon the Scottish ballers!
Change of scene today and took boys to Fife derby. Great game, decent atmosphere and a lot more entertaining than the recent Edinburgh and Old Firm derbies. Lots more Scottish and academy players on the field today. Coincidence?
100% this 👇

The amount of negative comments I and the boys receive when we talk about their academy football. Yes it has its challenges but the experiences, positive messages, encouragement from coaches and friendships the boys gain are often overlooked.
"I’m starting to grow tired of the narrative I see and hear in the media about Academies breaking hearts and ruining lives and it’s all about the 0.01%. I’m sick of that. I think it’s time we stood up for our industry."
🗣️Nick Cox's rallying cry for Academies
@Coxy3012
Rain was non-stop but great start to the season for Oliver with a goal in a convincing win for
@officialdafcYA
away to
@Morton_FC
. All the young Pars were outstanding 👏
Interesting read this about Scottish football. With boys getting scouted earlier than ever before, are q4 (not as physically developed) kids getting left behind as academies think short term rather than long term development 😕
Absolutely this. At all levels of football. Grassroots football, academy football, first team football. Getting minutes, experience on the pitch has to be the priority for all players.
It’s all about playing games, it doesn’t matter who you play for unless you are getting minutes on the pitch in games. A good lesson for young players here. ⚽️
🤣 Didn't he know he could pass it back to defence so the team could get back into shape 🤣 We will never produce a Messi type player in Scotland if players aren't encouraged to dribble and take on players.
Scorching Saturday ☀ up in the Highlands watching Oliver score 2 and grab 6 assists for
@officialdafcYA
in convincing win for the young Pars over

Every club will tell you their environment is the best but every kid is different. People can look at set ups,logistics, coaching and facilities but where your kid is happiest is the club you need to be at.
Really interesting read this on a whole range of subjects within academy football notably importance of game time at key ages, comparing Scottish academy football to other nations and highlighting Relative Age Effect.
NEWS | We are pleased to publish an extensive report that puts player development and progression at the forefront, focusing specifically on on the issues facing players in their transition from academy to senior football.
Birthday weekend celebrations continue for Oliver. Getting his 10th Player of the Match card of the season means a 2nd Gold card. Well done wee man 👏 💙🇧🇷

at Fun4s. 👍⚽️
Absolutely this 👇
See it with so much of kids football with shouts from the sidelines to look for the pass (or telling them who to pass to 🙈)
No point practising 1v1s in training and then match day comes around and player decision making goes out the window.
🇦🇷🗣️ Lionel Scaloni: "We are losing the essence of football. Not only at a professional level, but also with kids."
"My children play in Spain and are overwhelmed with information. They receive the ball, and they're already being told what to do."
"There are fewer dribblers
🔵🔐 Alexander Smith has signed a three year professional contract at Rangers, deal done.
Eligible for USA & Scotland, Smith picked Rangers ahead of strong options in MLS and Premier League.
Great start to the season

for Oliver. 6 games played. Man of the Match in 5 of them which meant he got first Gold card of the season 👍⚽️💙🇧🇷👏

Wish coaches particularly for younger kids at fun 4s would take note. No point practising 1v1s and dribbling in training if they are shouted at on match day to pass as soon as they receive the ball.
There are too many coaches today who want to make the decisions for their players. That is simply not development!!

👇This needs to be trialled more in Scottish football
- Gives Sep to Dec boys a chance to shine more
- Gives Jan to Jun boys a chance to test themselves against older players rather than simply playing a year up
👉 Great innovation this weekend to tackle the Relative Age Effect by changing the banding for our schoolboy players from ‘Jan to Dec’ to ‘Sep to Aug’.
Interesting to see our youngest players become the oldest.
Really interesting this but even stats like this don’t really reflect the true picture as many late maturers don’t even get selected in the first place. Late maturers have to battle to get selected in comparison to taller q1 and are often overlooked at the start.
This 👇 100%. 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s can be so important with player development. Watching players like
@Pedri
and
@LamineeYamal
who are technically brilliant but their biggest strength is their ability to beat their opponents in a 1v1, 2v2. 👏
The modern game has become super structured, organized, and well-coached. Teams at the highest level are much tougher to break down. 🛡️ That’s why players who can beat opponents 1v1, those with flair and creativity, are even more important today! 🌟
We’ve seen this in Euro 2024
𝟮𝗩𝟮 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝟭𝟭 ⚽️
Last Friday saw Week 11 of our 2v2 Revolution take place! 🤩🤩🤩
There was lots of brilliant football on display from all of the young players and congratulations to our winning teams! 👏👏👏

Interesting insights, experiences & learning for players, coaches and parents.

🔑 No doubt to be playing years up you HAVE to be an early developer.
But he is also there because he’s able to impact games as he would in his own age groups.
