What a honor and privilege to be asked to help with 7th edition of the Orthopedic PT Examination Bible! Thank you Dr. Magee. Hopefully out end of 2018!
Letting
@chadcookpt
and
@AdamMeakins
teach the students today. What a great way to excite our students on differing opinions about manual therapy. Thank you both!
Year 24 at WSU underway. Been on sabbatical since January! 8 months away writing and editing. Excited and ready to begin my 24th year educating PT students - and ours have proven to be the best of the best. Lets take it to the MAX this year.
New study in special issue of JSR. I guess this is why we have pitch counts and recommendations to not pitch multiple days. Infraspinatus CSA does not recover for up to 2 days after pitching.
VM specific exercises no better than general quad strengthening for first time patellar dislocation. I wish we could preferentially activate the VM, but just not sure its going to happen!
10 year study on make bodybuilders shoulders. AC joint problems for the most part. Other than AC joint everything healthy. When does strength training become excessive? Is it simply a matter of opinion or is there criteria?
Honored to be awarded SPTS Ron Peyton award this week. Especially happy my family was able to share it with me. Huge thanks to George Davies and Todd Ellenbecker for nomination.

So proud to have received the WSU CHP Research award for 2022. I cannot even begin to list everyone that need thanks for helping me with research! If you have ever helped me in anyway, mentors, students, colleagues… you know who you are! Thank you from bottom of my heart!🙏
If you have not yet listened, and you treat ACL patients, you HAVE hop on this podcast series. My man
@kcrehabguy
Danny L breaks it down simple. Nice job brotha! 👊🏻👊🏻💪🏼💪🏼
Fortunate to be able to stop into the Scottsdale Sports Rehab and spend some quality time with my brother from another mother, Todd Ellenbecker! Able to see Todd and their crew in action! Love this guy! He is the best!
Have also found MPFL to work very well in most. May take just a bit to get the quad to fire again, but once strength returns they all seem to do great. Nice to see studies show the same.
Sorry I wont apologize! I am old-school. Arrive early and stay late if needed. This is the norm leaving work on busy clinic days saving knees and shoulders!
Always love these TOS patients. Most OH athletes I have seen are of nTOC variety and have symptoms that seem to be secondary to a myriad of other issues such as cuff weakness, loss of scapular control, impingement, etc... Nice review article in Pain Ther.
Does how we dress in the clinic have an effect with our patient population? This article suggests patients have certain preferences for how their surgeon should dress! What about how PTs dress?
I hear a lot of bashing on special testing lately! Couldnt have been said better than from David Magee in our upcoming OPA

! They are only one piece of your clinical exam and should not be used by themselves.
Proof that what I have thought for years. Frozen shoulder may not always have the classical capsular pattern loss of motion. There are multiple patterns based on timing of disease. Just because ER>ABD>IR does not fit… you could still have frozen shoulder!
🙏 IJSPT for allowing me to write this open access editorial. I think intangibles like these help us all to be more successful in life! I enjoyed writing this piece!
In clinic yesterday pm. 13 pts. 7 of which were “sore”. Informal pole. Asked them to rate their “pain” on scale of 1-10. Unanimously all said its not ratable on 1-10 scale. Its sore not painful.

So I failed last Thursday! My goal over the summer was to run 3 mi in less than 30 min and keep my weight. Didnt make it. Nailed it today! Set goals and dont stop striving to meet them! Let success define U, not failure!
I always thought single leg vertical was a great tool to assess for symmetry. Great insight with this study. We should use vertical hop/jump more often.
Without a doubt my greatest work achievement! The ASSPT Turner Blackburn Lifetime Achievement Award. Humbled to be a part of this great group of past awardees. Congrats to all award winners this year. Special thanks to
@TimmySportsPT
for the nomination. U R the best!
Last session at CSM2020. Huge theater. Bigger crowd than I expected for 3pm-5pm session. Most seemed to enjoy session. Except 2nd pic, bottom right. Probably had a glass of warm milk and cookies before she came in! 🙂🙂🙂
Should bone bruise location affect ACL rehabilitation? Could precautionary limited early weight bearing change incidence of post injury OA years later?
Starting new study looking at association if supraspinatus and infraspinatus thickness with cuff strength and endurance. Thanks to Dr D Porter for US and students for their participation!
Shoulder hydrodilation for adhesive capsulitis. From the looks of this study it is a reasonable option. Not sure why we are not seeing it here more. Any suggestions of why?
Congrats to Ross Nakaji, Todd Ellenbecker and the crew for a nice 50 subject assessment of baseball player ROM and strength profile. Additional bonus is Table 4 with every study done on baseball shoulder ROM. Great addition to lit!

Never fully satisfied or happy with presentation! Drive myself crazy tweaking to the last minute to try to get it Just Right!
Growing up we all had superhero’s. I still have a few even as I grew older. Feel very blessed that I was able 2 spend time this summer with 2 of my “Supermen”!
@GJDDPTATCCSCS
and David Magee. What incredible mentors to have! These R 2 of the very best!
What an incredible honor to have our manual therapy book published now in Turkish! Thank you all for your support and we hope you find this resource helpful.
I have often questioned this as tx approach for shoulder. This epub ahead of print JOSPT RCT shows no difference in immediate or short term fu outcomes.
BFR following ACL for those that are months out of surgery and still struggling. This could be good news for those that struggle to get the quad to return.
This one just jumped to the top of my late night reading list! Check out this image of soft tissue restraints! The General
@GJDDPTATCCSCS
drilled the importance of knowing these into me in 1997!
9 hours and 2 packed flights later I have arrived in Alaska for my first on site traveling meeting since 2020 CSM in Denver! Looking forward to a few days fishing with

I have to admit I have been part if the SLH bashing bandwagon lately. However this study shows some support for its use with allometric scaling as has been described by the General

Putting this old bag back in action. Volunteering to cover my sons highschool club soccer team. Been looking forward to this for awhile. Been reviewing from a more recent edition of Principles! Pumped for our first two games today! Thanks
@TravisFrancis33
for supplies!
Starting to review historical perspective of ACL and OKC Ex after reconstruction. This paper from
@doclsmack
started the debate back up. Will post some historical articles over the next few weeks. What are your thoughts about OKC and ACL reconstruction?
Totally shocked on how little data we have on strength profiles for female athletes. Pubmed search comes up with numerous studies on male baseball players. Literally non existent on our ladies. We need to step up our game!
First week toward our 100 hours if mentorship in the Military Musculoskeletal Residency Program! Proud of
@Arlindskog
for his continued pursuit of excellence and his continued service of helping our military! Excited for our journey ahead!
You know your a therapist when you are waiting for your flight and you have already noticed about every type of gait including but not limited to antalgic, Trendelenberg, gluteus medius, Parkinsonian, CP, scissoring,…
28 years married to this incredible woman! She has given me 3 wonderful children and 2 pain in the ass dogs! I guess that makes me the luckiest guy in the world! Looking forward to at least 28 more!
