Delighted to let you all know that I have accepted an invitation from
@jazzfm
to be with you on VE Day Friday May 8th.
The music garden reopens with a FOUR HOUR special from 10am.
Anyone like me noticed how
#PritiPatel
fails to properly answer questions and has not allowed one single journalist to come back with a follow up question often to get clarity on an answer full of meaningless words. Cabinet changes on way maybe with a new Home Secretary first.
Desperately sad to share with you the news that the wonderful
#LamontDozier
has died.
I know he has been unwell for sometime. More details when I get them. A sad sad day indeed.
That’s almost it, but don’t worry soul brothers and sisters, I’ll be back!
I had so much fun today that I think we should do it all again at the end of the month.
I hope you can join me on Monday 25th May from 10am-2pm for another LIVE Bank Holiday special on
@jazzfm
.
Now I’ve had time to gather my breath, I want to say a big thank you for all your support.
The response to Friday’s show was overwhelming and has inspired me to make sure the next Bank Holiday show on Monday 25th May is even better.
Stay safe and remember, if it moves, funk it!
Pleased to confirm I can invite you all to join me on JazzFM to get rid of this horrible year and welcome a new one. Live from 8pm New Year’s Eve the power of essential rhythms will be in full effect. No tier restrictions no masks needed and even Brexit can’t stop us now. Ready?
Pleased to confirm another Bank Holiday Monday show on Jazz FM August 31st. The whole day has a special jazzy funky soulful feel and between 10am and 2pm expect a
#festival
of heritage tunes and plenty of rhythms to make you wanna dance. Book a loudspeaker near you!
It’s officially Bobby Womack day!
Born March 4th in Fairfax, Cleveland Ohio, he became a serious soul boy and storyteller in more ways than one.
Let me know what favourite Bobby Womack track you will be playing as you’re Breezing through memories of his best.
Very sad news from America that the great
#ArethaFranklin
is seriously ill. Aged 76 she has had health issues over the past few years. Maybe we should
#SayALittlePrayer
which is what her family are reported to have asked.
Will be watching the
#ChristineKeeler
drama on BBC TV with gr8 interest. As a young journalist spent many hours door stepping her flat in Marylebone waiting for her arrest.I told her
#StephenWard
a central figure in the
#Profumo
affair had died. Me on way to court with her.
Thank you all so much for your support today. As always it was great fun being back on the air with you.
It feels like a lifetime ago we started these
@jazzfm
Bank Holiday / lockdown specials.
Hopefully they've helped you through some of it.
Stay safe & let's do it again soon!
The loss of PY has left me deeply sad. We were members of the same mutual admiration club. He had the skill of reminding us what great music we had missed from the past but was quick to champion all that was good and new.
Sensational news just in from my communications module confirming satellite fly past last night confirms all is well for my Bank Holiday special on JazzFM. Launch time 10am May 25th and have I got some musical goodies to share.
Putting together soulful jazzy rhythms for New Year Eve into Brand New Year on Jazz FM and deciding on the last tune many of us will hear in 2020 and the first tune we will hear in 2021 is a real challenge. You are all invited to our mask free safe trip around the music garden.
Proud to have influenced so many musically for so long. Can not believe I have been playing this one for 50yrs now! Thanx to those who have been with me thru the yrs. I will be in my

Just been on JazzFM with Nigel Williams talking about the the Bank Holiday
#SoulWeekender
. My show on August 31st is part of a huge day of all things soulful and jazz funky. Cancel all plans and book yourself a place at our weekender brought to your home on JazzFM.
Final touches going ahead today.
I’ll be spending the day turning the attic into a communications module ready for essential rhythms to be launched tomorrow on
@jazzfm
.
Cutting down the music selection has been a real challenge.
#MarvinGaye
would have been 80 years old today. It’s 35 years since he was shot dead by his father on April 1st 1984. His music legacy includes
#WhatsGoingOn
and that song released in May 1971 is still relevant today.
On a day with some good news for a change I have been told from a source that I will have some good radio news to share with you tomorrow Thursday December 3rd. How exciting!
This was an important time musically for many of us. It is equally important & exciting now with so much new talent. My privilege & pleasure to share the fresh & familiar with you today and every Sunday 1-3pm on

The music garden is looking marvellous on this Sunday morning UK time. Gates open on JazzFM at 1pm and the essential rhythms are looking as good as ever doo be doo!
Enjoyed the Patrice Rushen gig last night at

. Great to bump into Trevor Nelson after many years. A super professional and one of the nicest people you can meet.
@DJTrevorNelson
Been invited back for a three track contribution to Funky Friday on BBC Radio London with Robert under the covers Elms. Kicks off at 1pm and have I got a red hot funky + Xmas tune to include. Marks out of ten on Friday Yo!
How nice my visit to funky Friday with Robert Elms on
#BBC
Radio London today might happen again. The response has been fantastic. How nice we all need something to lift our spirits in these difficult times.
It is a comfort to his family our appreciation of the author of the songbook that is
#LamontDozier
. His death was sudden and those that have worked with him or people like me who where honoured to interview him will all confirm he was a lovely man. His family are in our thoughts.
In his 1st ever UK interview
#LutherVandross
talked about being the voice on
#7UP
drink ads. Within 1 hour a crate of the drink turned up in my studio
@BBCRadioLondon
sent from a sharp
#soul
girl who happened to sell the stuff. Remembering LV on his birthday today

This picture is of vinyl double album Marvin signed for me after our 1981 interview.
It says:
"To Robbie
God Bless and Keep You and Yours in Good Health and Happiness.
Love
Marvin Gaye
81."
Treasured possession.
News just in. Police responsible for
#BatterseaPark
says they have moved on close to 100 people and have even had to use police resources to attend local garden party complaints. If you are one of those
#PoliceOfficers
be reassured the silent majority applaud your actions.
Sharing a memory at
@LBC
Not always a well financed news operation.I lived through 3 owners to save on costs 1 set of newspapers to be shared by 3 + programmes. As the evening person by the time I arrived papers were full of holes where stories had been cut out.
Make sure you have some space to dance some lungs to sing ready for the the JazzFM jazzy soul day this Bank Holiday Monday. Virus safe and I have just a few more tunes to choose to tremble your bass bins and mash up your backyard with essential rhythms 10am to 2pm. DoBeDoo!
Brand new slice of music nostalgia in time for Xmas. Real vinyl double album with good sleeve notes and great track line up. Ready to play or to spend life as a coffee table attraction. Part of the the great I Love Vinyl come back!
Those who chose to follow recommended distancing will be pissed off to see packed beaches with hordes of people now on their way home carrying a very high risk of spreading coronavirus. Virus will probably not kill the carriers but kill people who did distance. Selfish or what?
Delighted to let you all know that I have accepted an invitation from
@jazzfm
to be with you on VE Day Friday May 8th.
The music garden reopens with a FOUR HOUR special from 10am.
Happy 2024! Let’s start as we mean to go on. Join me at 10am this morning on

On the tomorrow’s
@jazzfm
Bank Holiday special there is a master class on how to write a massive hit that sold around 5 million copies....and it all happened on a coffee break.☕️
On this day 35 years ago

was for happy if you were one of the lucky ones recovering from the fantastic

concert in Hammersmith. What a night of pure

!
I still like real people Radio which is on its way out. Terrible presenters who are allowed to talk over records because they think they are more important than the tune should not be allowed. Dreadful Local Radio Stations still allow it.
Hamilton Bohannon whose death has just been announced had big dance floor hit in UK with Lets Start The Dance . His music pedigree included providing the band for the big
#Motown
live tours by Marvin Gaye Smokey Robison Temptations and many more.
The music garden does not have to depend on the weather so with confidence I can confirm the gates will open on JazzFM Sunday April 4th at 1pm UK time. Get ready to award yourself a big prize if you guessed correctly track one.
What is the most romantic song you have ever heard? How about Always And Forever Heatwave. Just a thought as I put together Music For A Candlelit dinner playlist for Valentine Sunday.
Looks like a jazzy soulful funky weekender day to me. A festival of heritage tunes standing by to launch at 10am on JazzFM. Join me for some doobedoo and much more and get involved via the communications module which opens soon.
If you missed my Bank Holiday special hot news from the JazzFM fridge the full four hours has been kept fresh on catch up to revisit or hear for the first time.
Like everyone else, we are stuck at home this Christmas Day, so I've put together a
@SpotifyUK
playlist for us all to enjoy.
I hope you find a song or two that brightens up your day.
🎧
Merry Christmas.🎅
PS: don't forget to join me on
@jazzfm
this NYE
Interesting day getting the Music Garden ready for my first new show on JazzFM this Sunday. Choosing track one is as ever the most difficult but deciding what it will not be is much easier.
We have lots of favourites lined up for this Friday;s
@jazzfm
programme and it’s LIVE too so anything can happen.
Make sure you tune in, Friday 8 May 10am-2pm.
Let's get funky together in the lockdown.
After long periods of ill health the Queen of Soul
#Aretha
Franklin finally sucumbed to pancreatic cancer at her home in Detroit. The Soul and Gospel world has lost a true regal ruler with the voice that just oozed sensual soulfulness.We all say another little prayer for Aretha.
Looking forward to joining Robert Elms for funky Friday on BBC Radio London today at 1pm. What a challenge to pick just three tracks that encourage dancing feet.
It is
#BobbyWomack
day as we remember him on his birthday today. What would your favourite track be? Daylight sounds great How Could You Break My Heart from 1979 I Can Understand It 1972 or his vocal on Inherit The Wind with
#WiltonFelder
. Some song book!
We all should not forget that over 300 people have died in the last 24 hours as a result of this terrible virus. We all should not forget that this dreadful virus could return in full affect unless we continue to keep apart. The invisible enemy just waits to strike if we relax.
Deeply saddened to hear of the death of monster music man
#LesAdams
. Mix man,broadcaster,music maker but most of all a thoroughly honest warm and genuine nice person to know.
As tougher restrictions arrive to fight off this dreadful virus be reassured our New Year Eve Jazz FM party will work even harder to bring a slice of mask free life into your home and show that music is a terrific medicine and I will make sure it is the best!
WAKE UP EVERYBODY, No more sleepin' in bed...
Welcome to the Bank Holiday
@JazzFM
Soul Weekender.
We are kicking off the next 4hrs with a trip over to Philly and this brilliant track from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.
