At the end of Desert Storm, our tanker unit was invited to the celebration by the 388th commander at the Al Minhad soccer field. To put it politely, we didn’t get along to well even though we pumped their 16s as well as 52s out of DG. The pilots were arrogant when we approached them to congratulate them on a job well done. We accepted the cold shoulder and regrouped away from them. They migrated toward us, several pilots threw their drinks on our air crew members. We had a CC built like the Hulk that ended that confrontation rather q-u-i-c-k-l-y and we left the party early. We packed up the next 2 days and then departed the following day taking the NG Security Troops assigned to our unit by the 388th (Hill) with us under a self proclaimed “Operation No One Left Behind”. Our commander radioed ahead to have another 135 ready to personally deliver the security personnel to their home in Texas and notified their families they were on their way. Both events were the highlight of our reunion conversations.

Another Thai memory was Songkran (Water Festival). It was fun as well as funny because those who did not know about the festival would get upset that water was thrown on them. Everyone who knew of the festival put their wallets in plastic bags because they expected to get “watered down”. It was not a problem because 3 to 5 minutes later you were dry as a bone and quite refreshing.

Every year at UT we had a fundraiser on base for local orphanages. The highlight of the event was the USAF would steal the Navy’s Anchor and the Navy would steal the USAF Dragon each holding the other’s for ransom to up the donations. Afterward, we would get together to exchange our hostages, have a few beers and exchange how we completed our mission. We had a real good time.

If everyone knows there is waste in government and your bottom line is simple, why haven’t you addressed the waste? You have been in Congress since 1999, you have done nothing to address the waste and now, that the waste is being addressed, you are complaining when Congress has known of waste yet is responsible to pass each Fiscal Year Budget? You’re scrambling to recover but your damage control (Website & FaceTime) is failing… Hugely!
