I gave everything I had last week to try and document the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This image shows last Wednesday, her procession to Westminster on a gun carriage passing through Horseguards with the Cavalry giving a guard of honour.

This is Fowlea Brook, a concrete channel running behind the old industrial units of Stoke town. They are about to dramatically reconstruct this section to help protect the town in severe flooding.

My Mum is a worrier. I was on chauffeur duty to take her to a hospital eye appointment. She'd rung me concerned the hour I'd allocated to get to hospital for 2.30pm might not be enough. I completely called her bluff and racked up at 8am with easel in hand

Drizzle Thurlwood Lock
I'd chosen the scene because of amazing light when I was setting up. Sod's law and the light quickly disappears. Drizzle at the end of the session brought it back to life, sometimes it's worth just seeing things through and being open to change.

Day4 Oxford Road Barbers
Completing a painting a day, time becomes more precious & weather change more frustrating. I had the idea of a dull painting of the glowing Barbers below the Kimpton hotel but in reality a lot of the day was sunny and I had to be patient to get a result.

The Horse Guards Farewell
I stayed awake all night stood with my easel on Whitehall to secure this vantage point.
They had set up speakers so anyone on Whitehall could hear the service inside Westminster Abbey. It was incredibly moving on the hushed street.

Fortunately the summer leaf cover was dense enough above that I could carry on working on this without getting too wet. The arrival of the rain and the beautiful high contrast patterning would breathe fresh life and movement into the scene.

The Greatest honour of my career was to be granted access by Her Majesty to paint The Queen's Birthday Parade at Windsor Castle. This was the last Trooping the Colour she was able to attend.
This glimpse of her through a window will be treasured.

A quite large, single session painting of an atmospheric sunken corner of

. These daunting set of steps take you up to Oxford Road Station. Quite a dark painting but it is a dark corner and hopefully it conveys the atmosphere.

We've got some good friends and neighbours who have their own family business printing transfers for the ceramic industry. They print the designs for Emma Bridgewater, Dunoon and Portmeirion pottery.
It's a mesmerising process.

Yesterday's painting outside the Horse Guards. This horse is the brilliantly behaved Marquis who is a little fat because he's realised that stomping his foot all night will wake the soldiers and result in biscuits so they can get more sleep.
