I am deeply concerned by the recent U.S. decision to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian exports that threaten the livelihood of Alberta’s ranchers, farmers, and agri-food producers. As we all know, agriculture is the backbone of Alberta's economy. The 25% tariffs currently proposed will cause lasting damage to the agricultural sector, affecting not only producers but families and communities across North America. Alberta’s farmers, ranchers and agri-food producers have long been vital to both the Canadian and American economy. These hardworking individuals, who put in long hours to grow and produce the food that feeds both Canada and the US, now face increasing uncertainty due to tariffs and trade barriers. It is a direct attack on Alberta's agricultural exports which are essential to the American agriculture economy. Our government will continue to stand up for ranchers, farmers, and all those working in agriculture, by lobbying the U.S. administration to reverse these harmful policies. The United States is our largest agricultural trade partner, and any disruption to this relationship will have far-reaching consequences for both countries. It’s also important to highlight that Alberta exports some of the highest quality agricultural products, from beef to grains, that not only provide jobs here but contribute to the U.S. economy, food affordability, and food security. This mutually beneficial trade relationship cannot be overlooked. North America’s agricultural producers rely on their ability to access markets on both sides of the border as a key part of supporting the larger global supply chain. Alberta will continue to pursue diplomatic and economic efforts to ensure that American policymakers understand the integral role Canadian producers play in feeding people on both sides of the border. In these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever that we come together to support our agricultural community, stand up for our producers, and help each other export our best resources and products to new markets across the globe, to protect the future of Alberta's agricultural economy. By doing so, we reaffirm the importance of agriculture to North American prosperity.

We have so many great local businesses and I want to take the chance to recognize Stonehammer Diesel & Automotive Repair for bailing me out of a pickle on Friday morning. After blowing a high pressure hose, causing me to lose brakes and power steering, I was so relieved when Ryan worked with me to get my truck down to them, fix it and get me back on the road! With such a full schedule on Friday and a weekend full of charity events, I can't express how grateful I am! And thanks for the keychain Stonehammer emblem.... I will display it proudly.

Although I couldn’t be at the AAAS Convention in person, as I was attending a Federal, Provincial, Territorial meeting of Agriculture Ministers related to US Tariffs, I am grateful that the incredible work of ag societies was celebrated. This event connects over 292 agricultural societies and thousands of volunteers across the province. It provides an opportunity to gather for networking, learning, and professional growth. Together, we continue to support over 1,000 community-run facilities and events that make Alberta thrive. Thank you the ag societies across our province for all that you do!

Today I met with the federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture to discuss the current situation with the U.S. It was an important meeting for us to share our concerns on tariffs with the federal government, and how we can continue to advocate for our agriculture sector. Despite the challenges, Alberta remains focused on navigating these complexities and ensuring fair trade for our industries.
