Vida Blue pitched at Rickwood Field in the summer of 1969. He went 10-3 with a 3.20 ERA throwing 104 innings for the Birmingham A's.
Happy 71st Birthday to the one and only Vida Blue! In '71, Vida was 24-8 with a 1.82 ERA, won the AL Cy Young and MVP awards, and was on the cover of Time. He won three World Series titles with the A's and became the first pitcher to start the All-Star Game for both leagues.
