We didn't fight against racist commenters and haters back in 2019 when we were voting and campaigning for Tiffany Young only to see this in 2023.
우리는 2019년 티파니 영을 위해 열심히 싸운 후 2023년에 이런 종류의 거대한 오보를 본다. 정말 화가 나요.

Ok, I managed to listen to the whole thing. Being an invested SONE (in many different ways), here are my reactions to this podcast.
1) I have to keep in mind that this is THEIR platform and THEIR show. Not mine. That said, I have to keep in mind where they're coming from. 1/
In this episode, Chelsea and good friend Yuuki from The Kingdom Podcast have come together to share what it takes to become queens as iconic as SNSD.
Join them as they run through the journey that is SNSD’s history here:
What I would love to see next year is this superstar collaboration among SM Entertainment artists Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Yoona, Transparent Arts' Tiffany Young, Saram Entertainment's Sooyoung, and Namoo Actors' Seohyun.
That would be super.
🔍 A superstar collaboration consisting of multiple girl group members from different companies is scheduled to drop early next year
(Shared first with Super Followers)
I hope the media would respect these wishes. And the fans would also respect these wishes and not share any media (who goes against these wishes) coverage on it.
[INFO] SNSD to appear on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on The Block (유 퀴즈 온 더 블럭)’ in celebration of their 14th anniversary 💗
Episode is expected to be filmed in early August!

The focus on Tiffany, Seohyun, and Sooyoung in this particular segment is so powerful. I mean, back then in August 2017, amidst the celebration of the 10th anniversary highlighted with the fanmeeting, who would have known (outside of SNSD)? It must have been so tough for SNSD. 1/
Incidentally, I've just gotten word that the book on "Women of K-pop" that I've co-authored a chapter on
@GirlsGeneration
with
@younghwang801
is in the final stages before printing. Sharing here the final paragraph of that chapter.
Wasn't easy with the 12k word limit.
I will never stop saying this: I cannot emphasize enough how precious it is seeing Taeyeon really happy and in such high spirits. She really was so bright and happy and enjoying herself.
And the energy from the crowd just drove her to be happier and enjoy the show more. 🥺
It's finally here! Women We Love: Femininities and the Korean Wave, published by
@HKUPress
is now available!
Three years in the making, and our piece on
@GirlsGeneration
#SNSD
is the closing chapter for this new academic anthology on feminist themes in K-Pop. 1/

! After Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Hyoyeon, now we MAY HAVE A CHANCE for Yoona to come to the Philippines! Please fill out this survey for the potential producers. We need at least 2000 by Feb 29.
Let's make this happen!
To the people who literally saved my life when I was in a very dark place. I won't be where I am today if it weren't for you.

SNSD 16th Anniversary
I am forever thankful.
지금은, 앞으로도, 영원히.
It has been a signature thing for SNSD to have insane stage blocking and footwork in their choreographies. And to do so again after a five-year hiatus is just taking it to another level.
@upsystem
Stop glamorizing the fact that we have meager resources! The people doing research to get us where we are right now in these rankings deserve better.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to post this one. Yep. Right there. It's still eight of them under
@GirlsGeneration
. Yep, made it all the way to the top floor just to make sure it's still there. Also, Seohyun's still saying "Hi" in that photo booth.
A big shoutout to the amazing
#UNISONE
volunteers who led the camping at the different ticketing venues for
#TAEYEON
#TheODDOfLOVE_in_MANILA
. Shoutout as well to the Ticketnet staff who helped our volunteers and SONE to have a smooth onsite process.
See you all on July 30! ❤️❤️❤️

How K-pop idols have come to stand the test of time
@jennyfromretail
@_allkate
They can afford to speak philosophically because they can afford, period. 💸💰They will tell you the what, be vague with the why, and tell you next to nothing about the how.
They will tell you to take risks, but not warn you about the costs. Because they can, and you can't. 💰💸
Let this be a reminder to my fellow SONE (in my network at least). We're an old(er) fandom, and you know what that means as far as behavior is concerned.
Like SHINee's Minho said, fans are a reflection of the idol. Hence, we carry the name of SNSD when we call ourselves as SONE.
That was heartwarming. The SONE fandom is alive and well with people like that. Made me warm inside, and I remember now why I got in the fandom in the first place. <3
When an account whose only purpose is to share data on K-pop sales figures suddenly woke up and (finally) chose violence because it has had enough of the the toxicity of K-pop fandoms. 😑😑😑 Like seriously when is it all going to stop and start to simply enjoy music once again?
@itnw0628
Nothing lasts forever, as they say. I suddenely remembered when SONE went, "우리 오래가자" at their 3rd concert. It's more realistic to say that we want to go together for a long time, instead of trying to making it last forever. Live in the moment, and make it last meaningfully.
It takes a special kind of stupid to be this bad. Seriously, I thought SM learned from the last time CNCA held a Soshi event (Yuri's FM). And now, Yoona is getting it worse.
Sure, fans are extremely hassled, but think about Yoona as well.
Old SONE will remember a funny incident back in 2009 when Tiffany's shoe heel got stuck on stage.
Fifteen years later she finally got her revenge on that damned heel.
I did this quick interview with a potential applicant for a research project. Everything was going well at first, until I opened my laptop to show her a sample of the work to be done.
She saw my wallpaper, and I heard her quip, "Ew, SNSD."
Needless to say, she didn't get the job.
7) That helipad performance is such a significant production nugget and Chelsea and Yuuki put it really well. There were no drones to film that. It's still the record holder when it comes to TV ratings for MuCore at least. It was a live performance, unprecedented at that time. 7/
2) Some corrections on the facts stuff first: Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun left SM after Holiday in 2017, not after Lion Heart/You Think in 2015. I guess that's easy to mess up since 2015-2017 was all solo stuff. But, at least to me, it's critical to get the timeline right. 2/
Just on the comments alone, I can already tell that this was a piece of trash.
Lemme give you a piece of advice,
@philconcerts
. Fire the whole team responsible for this, along with the management who approved this to be uploaded.
And then apologize, sincerely, mind you.
I am so grateful that Taeyeon found such a good bunch of people in the Amazing Saturday team. Every single time I see her having so much fun in that show, my heart is at peace.
Amazing Saturday team sent a coffee car to Taeyeon MV filming set.
Message says: “Sing half heartedly so we can solve it on Amazing Saturday” 🤣🤣🤣
Also: “Amazing Saturday is cheering you on” and “Amazing Saturday is anticipating it” 💜
Agreed.
40+ y.o. And I'm still volunteering my time and efforts to do fan zones, fan events, etc. and fanboying like batshit crazy during my faves' live events.
Where is this pressure that one should outgrow a thing that one likes to do just because of age coming from?
I’m 28 and a kpop stan, I don’t know for how long it’ll last but i’m happy with my now. Akala ko rin maooutgrow ko sya pero wala, 15 years later im still here.
Yes, everyone’s timelines are different. But also, you don’t necessarily have to “grow out” of it or any of the things

was just awesome. She barely took a break between songs, singing her heart out.
She did something that totally blanked me, stunning me silly. More on my fan account later.

5) Which then goes to show how much SNSD was affected by this (remember, Sooyoung wrote the lyrics of Sailing). And while on the subject, I've seen many present-day fans trying to use their faves' own Black Ocean incidents as badges of honor. It's not. Nobody deserves that. 5/
4) It wasn't completely black in the 2008 Dream Concert Black Ocean incident. I think it's important to point out that there were SONE in the audience and they had their lightsticks on. It's a small but important detail since this was articulated in the lyrics of Sailing. 4/
3) Why? Because it makes 2023 Forever 1 that more special. None of us knew what was going to happen back then after 2017, despite keeping the faith (SNSD said so themselves on Soshi TamTam). It took five years, and four different agencies to put this all together. It's huge. 3/
9) They mentioned some, like Taeyeon being a soloist or Yoona being an actress, but I hope more and more people would also realize how much they grew out of the group persona, create their own identities and paths, but are still able to confidently say that they're SNSD. 9/
Bish. I'm 37. A PhD in International Management holder. A tenured Associate Professor in a top business school in my country. A Professorial Chair holder doing research on e-government. A Principal Investigator on SK's NSP. And I also got two academic journals on KPop.
BTW, if you're over the age of 18 (and that's really pushing it) and you're a superfan of K-pop it's probably time to reevaluate your life. It's entertainment for 13-year-olds.
#KPOP
#SuperM
6) To clarify some stuff. MBC Music Core didn't have a chart back then. That's why we didn't see an encore stage back then. That's why we saw SNSD Genie on the helipad while the credits rolled. It's important to know this because it affects the number of awards on record. 6/
12) Streaming as we know it wasn't a thing back then. There was no Spotify, no Twitter, no TikTok, no Facebook, no Instagram to get word out and make stuff go viral. Getting one or two million views in one day was more than huge. A lot of people presently forget that. 12/
10) Which then circles me back to 2017-2023. SONE saw how much each member individually grew. It would have also been great to mention how newer fans found out about SNSD because of their solo works, like Yoona gaining new fans because of her drama, and then they become SONE. 10/
@taengoonim_
I'm guessing that they haven't seen the 360p to 480p era of show stretching from Horror Movie Factory, Star Golden Bell, Intimate Note, Invincible Youth, etc.
Besides, Korean TV featuring idols aren't as they were before.
14) Another historical context that they highlighted and I completely agreed with is the quality of competition that SNSD had back then. Yeah (and fite me), second-gen was just nuts across all categories. I laughed when Chelsea said that there's no garbage content at all. 🤣 14/
8) OK, now for some critique. I had hoped that they would have delved deeper into SNSD's individual careers as well because this is a major reason why SNSD is still part of the present K-Pop discourse. It's not just about their success, but it's what they represent as well. 8/
HOLY SHIT MY PROPOSAL TO WRITE ABOUT
#SNSD
FOR A BOOK ON WOMEN OF HALLYU HAS BEEN ACCEPTED OMG OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M GOING TO WRITE ABOUT MY FAVES FOR A BOOK!!!
I just had to snap at a Starbucks store.
Me: *lowkey singing "All Night" on my iPod while marking papers*
Random girl approaches: "Excuse me, you and your KPop is why OPM is dying."
Me: "If you're so concerned about our own, then why are you sipping an American coffee brand?"
We finally have the first proof in book form! Teasing the part of the Foreword that talks about the chapter I co-wrote with
@younghwang801
.
It's always been a dream to write something about my favorite K-Pop girl group from an academic perspective. And now it's almost a reality.
15) Digression: Think about it: Combine item
#11
-14, and you get a picture of how much your faves' faves had to work their asses off to pave the way for your faves. Yuuki said it: SNSD had the balls to overcome the fear of failure for others to succeed (something like that). 15/
In 2010, then-SM CEO KYM said that SNSD will disappear because it already reached max growth. This was even before The Boys, IGAB, etc.
I would love to see a reporter get back to him and ask him what he thinks now.
Not today, KYM. Not today.

Damn. Looking back at that, I knew something was off. I either couldn't place it, or I was ignoring it. Amidst the tears and the laughter that night, like damn. It hits so hard right now. Ngl I cried.
