By developing a system where fluke risk areas/periods are id remotely, informed sustainable fluke control strategies can be applied with confidence. Also a great chance to develop highly sought molecular, computer science and parasitology skills. Please get in touch for more info

Congrats Chris, a monumental effort to review 100+yrs of research into the fluke mud snail host. This snail's impact on animal/human health is profound and it is imperative that we further our understanding of its ecology and subsequent fluke transmission

On farm yesterday to sample these lambs, who've been grazing fields with dense yet scattered mud snail populations for fluke. Lambs were in great shape despite recent +ive fluke test. Will look at how infections are dispersed within flock + link to grazing history & performance

Will do it all again at the @AberDLSAGB research festival next week and I'll also be discussing fluke risk areas on a couple of the @FarmingConnect Our Farm Walk events later this month!

Yes 17 universal actions ranging from 10% tree cover to mandatory CPD. If any UA is incompatible with a farm then no way of joining scheme. Low uptake likely in current form which would be disastrous for Welsh farming, rural communities and the government - needs urgent rethink!

Interesting thread @RhysA_J, hadn’t appreciated SFS to be so widely applied!? Some scrapes may increase fluke risk, others may not, depends where they’re installed, how they’re managed etc! In any event, sustainable fluke control requires ongoing risk assessment and testing!👊

Serious thought is therefore needed before implementing UA10. And clearly that includes some thought on how to aid declining farmland birds an important ambition in itself. But the SFS cannot endanger animal health even if only as an unintended consequence of well-meant measures
