My latest @NatCounterPunch assessing the opportunities and challenges of organizing a left politics among Asian Americans. This topic, I feel, still isn’t as explored as it should be. I include insights from left organizers that I think are amazing.

@0liviajulianna Yes, it’s “purity politics” to [checks notes] care about people in Gaza, and to care about actual policies lifting people up rather than leaving them to fend for themselves. Makes total sense.

@Shaneless93 What he’s rightly condemning is a false hope behind Kamala Harris about Palestine.

@comradesanchez I know people w long Covid. It’s pretty bad. Also no offense but this is such a needlessly (stressing needlessly) mean and demeaning analysis of the Covid pandemic now.

@Shaneless93 You know what speaks to the eradication of Palestinians? The current Biden/Harris policy on funding and arming Israel.

@davidvolodzko Lenin was a freedom fighter. He was an anti imperialist. He in fact fought against the White Army, which was full of reactionaries. You sound like someone who only relies on the History Channel for your interpretation of history.

@nhannahjones @RealDarylDavis Literally the white guy was part of a terrorist group. I too would’ve been uncomfortable.

@msolurin He again lists “demographic change” as an issue. lol… we all know what he means by that. Anyways, he’s a right wing populist tool. Glad he’s off air. Wait till Trump awards him a presidential medal of freedom someday though.

The DSA IC was correct in showing support for Venezuela’s govt. especially when there is a growing right wing coup movement searching for validation. It is utter nonsense to not extend solidarity to Chavistas in Venezuela 🇻🇪.
The DSA IC's statement is premature because detailed election results at the polling station-level have not been released. Additionally, praise of biometric voter registration is misguided. Our members on DSA's NPC are proposing that this statement be rescinded.

@WSJ Hmm so I suppose being a tourist is a crime? Couldn’t other countries say the same then about Americans going abroad?.

@nkulw This is so surreal. They’re all on a beach enjoying life while all of Gaza is rubble.

@AndrewYang But for what purpose? I for one want a third party. But one that’s solidly progressive and left. Not run by a businessman populist type who leans to the right wing.

@Alex__1789 This is part of a socialist tradition of abolishing the nuclear family but mainly to free people, esp. women, from having to be dependent on family for one’s well being etc. Kollontai and others argued this long ago. It’s not new.

@esjesjesj Kinda funny how they have to stress they don’t want south Asians to be seen as the other Asians. lol.

I love how certain “leftists” who seem to exist in a world where context doesn’t matter seem to shit on the DSA constantly, especially it’s IC committee. The IC committee is doing excellent work in a crazy ass time. @DSA_Intl_Comm is literally taking stances, doing work.

@Shaneless93 That’s not what he’s saying really. But ok. Let’s say she’s immovable personally. We find ways to pressure other elected officials, those she considers as her allies.

@JZPhilosophy It comes w this misinterpretation that somehow, black Americans have achieved some kind of security and care… that others don’t? I’ve seen this too w some asians and other groups who quickly compare their situation to that of black Americans without any real knowledge.

@sunraysunray Covid-19 was a missed opportunity. It still boggles my mind how after a pandemic, Medicare for all now feels ever more distant as a political reality. We need more orgs fighting for this at the national level.

Such a useless message.
Harris choosing Walz as a running mate has shown the world that DSA and our allies on the left are a force that cannot be ignored. Through collective action, DSA and the US left more broadly have made it clear that change is needed. DSA members organized in our workplaces and.

@whstancil Fascism was promoted by certain capitalists as a means to suppress socialism. Hence, material interests and economic conditions. Same with it being a boomerang effect of colonialism abroad, which involved land grabs and extreme labor exploitation.

@sopjap @DrewPavlou This is really an insulting use of Malcolm X’s words. I’m stunned. Not only does this ignore the fact that most media do support the figures above, it decontextualizes what Malcolm X was trying to say, which had more to do with anti colonial and black militant struggle.

@Forever_noir_ I think there was a group who did occupy the statehouse down there and it may have been the dream defenders. So I think they’re doing a good job overall tbh. This is just one moment captured on video of some people dancing. I don’t think this sums up the entirety of said protest.

@promiseli0 Can I be honest? I feel as if all you do at times is just essentialize and condemn the “left” in the US in ways that aren’t rooted in reality. I agree w some of what you say but sometimes it feels like you just want to critique the left always, much like anti-woke “leftists” do.

@sopjap Tbh academic life isn’t that great, especially nowadays in the US. I get paid arojnd 20k now to teach etc… but I agree overall, I get annoyed at the pessimism when such intellects should know better. Given history and politics etc.

@promiseli0 I don’t think this is a fair critique. The western left, whatever that means to you, is not organized enough to even raise a stir domestically. And the western left, like DSA, has made statements about Iran for instance.

@madsneco They treat left politics as some sort of aesthetic. Rather than the goal of appeals to people, changing them, and winning power.

@cushbomb @MattBruenig I don’t get why you’re being this way to IWW? We can have debates but this sounds super petty and reeks of not being an organizer. Have either of you been part of labor organizing…?.

As a Brahmin, yes, Brahmins have been overlords so this is good. Also, as someone w a communist family, this is why it’s so important to have communist parties.
A little girl sings a "communist song" for a TV talent show in Kerala, in the background Brahmins are being portrayed as Evil overlords beating up lower caste women. This is supposed to be a light hearted family show, yet feels more like creepy North Korean propaganda

@lionel_trolling It’s not just “cultural”. It’s a health situation. Unless yes someone has some kind of foot issue whereby they need more support, by not taking off your shoes, you’re just dragging in dirt and grime and germs. It’s basic.
