On a show I worked on they hired a person who wrote/directed a movie that literally got me through a life threatening illness as a child & I told them how much their movie meant to me & then they broke contract & left us scrambling to finish their work lol.
working in animation is realizing a coworker was a lead artist on tarzan, your favorite movie ever, going "i. literally work in animation because of you", and for the coworker to say "sorry about that".

@smilesprhr Dont worry- a lot of studios like to keep their artists for as long as possible so there’s usually work to roll onto. But there are the occasional dry spells like in any industry that you gotta be prepared for.

Nearly every client I’ve ever had asks for more poses or to break up long scenes. Whenever we add in beats to let the scene or audience breathe it’s asked to be cut. Scripts nowadays are nearly all dialogue.
Animation veteran Frans Vischer's (Cats Don't Dance, Mickey's Christmas Carol, Roger Rabbit) take on Wish. Important to see an animator pinpoint the exact problems with the animation itself, since the regular viewer might not know how to get across those specific critiques.

@FireflyMykah Standards & Practices. They’re the people that call out potentially dangerous things in a piece of media, like broken glass or certain violent acts. They’re mostly there to protect children but sometimes they can make really silly calls.

I feel like people are grabbing the wrong message from this. It’s not that modern animators are intentionally avoiding referencing real life or pulling from experience- it’s that big studios are no longer asking for it.
Not a day passes that I’m not reminded of these words from Ric Sluiter, art director of LILO & STITCH.

Standards & Practices (S&P) is an organization that most media has to pass through to determine what content is potentially harmful (broken glass, fire, etc.) or will be mimicked by children (not wearing a seatbelt/safety gear, jumping out a window, etc.).

I couldnt draw a horse with/without reference until I worked on MLP for years and now I can only draw one specific type of horse
when people are all prissy about using refs like “i only draw from my mind” draw a horse from your mind right now. i want to see it. show me the mind horse. show it to me. now. i want to see. this has ceased to be about any larger artistic debate i just have to see the mind horse.
