Had a fantastic afternoon at the open house of the newly remodeled Kensington fire house with my daughter, who loved climbing on and exploring inside of fire engines. Kensington contracts with El Cerrito Fire Department, so this is 1 of 3 fire stations the department works from.

Spent much of the last two days on El Cerrito tours and briefings, an absolutely fascinating and humbling experience as I realized how much there is for me to learn as a new councilmember. So appreciate all the City staff, many of whom I met and learned from.

I introduced legislation (SB 79) to: 1. Up-zone areas around major transit stops (rail, bus rapid transit) for denser housing 2. Empower transit agencies to zone/permit projects on their land 3. Streamline (ministerial approval/no CEQA) projects on these up-zoned parcels🧵

Just used the brand new fare gates at 12th Street @SFBART, installation completed today. The BART team has really been ramping up installation, with many more stations planned in the coming months.

Had a fantastic time touring Van Ness BRT and Geary rapid bus with West Contra Costa Transportation Commission. Speeding past traffic on buses showed how transformative bus only lanes would be on San Pablo Ave, being considered for El Cerrito/Richmond. Let’s make it happen!

Heading to San Francisco to tour their bus rapid transit with West Contra Costa Transportation Commission. It was fun to show folks the new regional wayfinding signs and maps at El Cerrito del Norte BART, such an exciting pilot project!

If it wasn’t for @TransForm_Alert, I’m not sure I would have ever run for BART Board. I got involved in transit advocacy with them, defeating 2008 Berkeley ballot measure that would have banned bus rapid transit. Then advocated on BART issues & ran because Board wasn’t listening
Rebecca Saltzman ran for BART Director in 2011 to reform the agency. After multiple terms, including Board president, she moves on to the El Cerrito City Council, bringing valuable transit experience.
