A long, hard, cold, wet, windy winter comes to an end tomorrow with the season officially starting at Carnoustie. Hopefully see some of you on the links this year 🏌️♂️⛳️
Here’s my annual look at UK summer green fee increases.
- Average top 100 green fees are ⬆️ 9.6%, over 2X inflation
- The average top 25 course is now £321 (up 12% on 2023)
- Some clubs are cutting back on visitor tee times

A look down the long 12th at Carnoustie. How are you playing this hole?
Fun fact: this was the hardest hole in the 2018 Open and the 5th hardest on the PGA Tour that year
What a great Senior Open. Huge credit to everyone at Carnoustie Golf Links for the effort involved. Can’t beat a major tournament on your own doorstep!
The par 4 17th. Just an absolute beast of a hole. It’s forecast to play into the prevailing wind at the Senior Open this week. Expect all sorts of shenanigans here!

The par 4 15th. The start of Carnoustie fearsome finish. Play these holes in 16 shots or better and you can feel very happy with your days work!

With the Senior Open at Carnoustie in a few weeks, here is a hole by hole tour of my favourite course in the world

Starting with the par 4 1st
The par 5 6th hole “Hogans Alley”. This hole was made famous by Ben Hogan in his win here in 1953. One of the very best in the world

2 at Carnoustie with “Braids Bunker” slap bang in the middle of the fairway. Who loves a centreline bunker?
As an aside - how many bunkers can you see in total in this picture?
First correct answer will receive a cyber high 5
The famous final four at

The scene of untold amounts of drama over the years
For me the best and most exciting finish in golf. Anything can and will happen here!
What’s your favourite finishing stretch in golf?
The par 3 16th. Everyone’s heard the story of how Tom Watson never made par here in his win in 1975. I’m not sure I’ve made par too many times over the last 25 years either!
