What I think is that producers have been forced to do this because they fear their movies will be shamed even before release by many individual X accounts (with decent enough followings), fan groups, and YouTubers. You know, there are people in the media, and of course, YouTubers who, if not paid, start blackmailing makers by writing or saying negative things about movies on social media. As a result, many good Bollywood films flopped over the last few years because of this targeted campaign which led to low openings, which means the game is over. So it has become almost necessary to create a perception about box office numbers because it is not worth paying those people. It may be a bad practice but it is not entirely wrong considering the social media atmosphere where perception sells rather than reality.

I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry.
