One of our GPs spoke with an older man who has a terminal diagnosis, and his friend. When the GP asked if they were partners, the patient said, “See, I told you they’d be ok with us. They’ve got them Rainbow badges.” This is why

Two of the most important things an LGBT+ ally can do:
1) acknowledge and apologise for their own honest mistakes
2) call out unacceptable views held by others when they see or hear them, whether they agree with them on other things or not

has to be rolled out by

organisations who also put in place the supporting model which emphasises education of badge-wearers, and that wearing a 🏳️🌈badge is a responsibility
If you are an organisation using a rainbow logo this summer remember this is much more than a fashion statement. You take on a rich and powerful history. You have a responsibility to stand up for all LGBTQ+ people.
Can’t handle it?
Then lose the rainbow.
You have to earn it.

There are two strands underlying why we thought a project like
@RainbowNHSBadge
was needed
1) LGBT+ people, including LGBT+ children and young people, still face significant challenges, and poorer healthcare outcomes, just for being themselves

policy, is clear and established on how same-sex accommodation/single sex wards should be delivered for trans people
Like delivering age-appropriate inclusive education in schools, this is a basic human rights issue, not a debate

It needs all of our voices, together, challenging and affirming the simple basic truth: LGBT+ rights are human rights
But symbols can be part of that solution.
They’re part of what I can do to try to make things better
