Railways Budget 2026 : Important points : In the Union Budget for the FY26 Indian Railways has outlined an ambitious plan focusing on revenue growth, infrastructure development, and fleet expansion. Revenue Projections: 🔷Total Revenue: Indian Railways aims to achieve a total revenue of ₹3,02,100 crore in FY26, marking an 8.3% increase over the revised estimates of ₹2,79,000 crore for FY25. 🔷CAPEX : Total - ₹2.65 lakh crores . Budgetary support: ₹2.52 lakh crore Extra budgetary support: ₹10000/- crores ( euphemism for market borrowing) 🔷Internal resources: ₹3000 crores Passenger Revenue: A target of ₹92,800 crore has been set for passenger earnings, reflecting a 16% rise from the ₹80,000 crore estimated in FY25. Freight Revenue: The freight segment is projected to generate ₹1,88,000 crore, a 4.4% increase from the ₹1,80,000 crore in FY25. 🔷Infrastructure and Fleet Expansion: Project Pipeline: The Ministry of Railways has introduced projects worth ₹4.6 trillion into its development program for FY26, focusing on capacity expansion and rolling stock upgrades. 🔷Vande Bharat Trains: Plans are underway to manufacture 150 Vande Bharat 2.0 trains in the coming years. These upgraded trains are lighter and equipped with advanced features, enhancing speed, safety, and passenger comfort. 🔷Namo Bharat Rapid Rail: The introduction of 50 Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services (formerly Vande Metro) is planned to improve connectivity between short-distance cities, offering efficient and swift transit . Safety and Modernization: 🔷Investment in Safety: The budget for safety-related activities has been increased, with a planned expenditure of ₹49,609 crore in FY26, up from ₹44,032 crore in FY25. This allocation emphasizes track renewal and the enhancement of signaling and telecommunication systems 🔷Modernization Efforts: Indian Railways has invested over $22 billion in modernization projects during the current fiscal year, aiming to expand capacity and enhance travel speed and safety.
