...We are slowly piecing together why and how an official women's team came into existence in 2000. Key themes: *Piecemeal nature of the process *Relationship between English and Scottish women’s cricket *The importance of individuals in driving things, esp Linda Spence #CRN2025

I was thrilled to chair a Q&A session on The Future of Women’s Cricket with these 2 amazing women as part of #CRN2025 (the @CricketAcademic annual conference). Watch out for the podcast of the panel coming soon!

Clare Connor has spoken for the first time, following the #Ashes whitewash. Refused to be drawn on Jon Lewis or Heather Knight's futures, but did have some quite interesting things to say:

Extraordinary, really, when you remember that Beaumont has a T20 international hundred, and yet can't get into the current England T20 team.

A reminder of what happened on Day Two, when England forgot how to field. Day Three coming up in an hour. If England play like that again, it will be the last day of the #Ashes.

This is so powerful. I actually don't know how the ICC sleep at night, knowing they have done absolutely zero to support these incredible, resilient women.

As expected, Tash Farrant and Emma Lamb have lost their England contracts. For me, the big news is that Capsey & Glenn have both been given 1-year instead of 2-year contracts. That feels like a huge kick in the teeth for 2 players who are critical to Eng's long-term prospects.
