All abortions in Malaysia and the world over should be SAFE, FREE, LEGAL & LOCAL✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
In Malaysia, while the law allows abortion if a doctor deems the pregnancy injurious to a woman´s life or to her physical or mental health, this legal right is not widely known.

What does our law say about abortion?
Abortion is allowable if it is:
1. To protect the physical OR mental health of the pregnant woman
2. To protect the life of the pregnant woman
3. Assessed and performed by a registered medical practitioner
Despite safe abortion being permissible in Malaysia in early trimesters by law (Section 312 of the Penal Code), stigma against the choice to terminate a pregnancy continues to be propagated by health providers and society.

Birth control pills PREVENT pregnancy. Take it once a day, at the same time, everyday.
The 'morning after' pill is an EMERGENCY method (after unprotected sex or when birth control fails). Take it as soon as you can, <72 hours after unprotected sex, and not frequently.
Pil kontraseptif itu MENCEGAH kehamilan. Ambil 1 pil, waktu sama, tiap hari.
Morning after pill untuk kes KECEMASAN (selepas hubungan seks tanpa guna kontraseptif). Ambil secepat mungkin, tidak melebihi 72 jam.
Pil gugur diambil bila seseorang hamil di bawah 10 minggu.
Berapa ramai anak perempuan kita perlu merana. Ada yang mati kerana melahirkan anak sendiri. Ramai tidak bersedia menjadi ibu tunggal muda. Kita perlukan akses kepada Pendidikan Seks, Kontraseptif dan Pengugguran Kandungan yang lebih baik....
"Although not many are aware of its existence, the country's laws allow access to contraception and safe abortion by registered medical practitioners as stipulated under the Penal Code"
Reproductive rights need to be more widely acknowledged as human rights.

What types of safe abortions are available?
From medical options like pills to procedures like MVA, understanding the range of safe abortion methods available is essential in making informed decisions.
Many people mistakenly believe that abortion in Malaysia is outright illegal in all circumstances and should not be discussed altogether.
This lack of knowledge is because abortion´s legality is minimally discussed in health, social welfare and women´s crisis services.

Abortion is LEGAL in Malaysia to protect lives, and mental & physical well-being. But many are misinformed! Unfortunately, we inherited a draconian law from the colonial power, hence, abortion provision is still in the Penal Code.

Safe abortion IS PERMISSIBLE in this case. The doctor has to make that decision in good faith that it causes injury to her mental health. Injury to mental health is broad. There is no requirement for severe mental anguish. Anxiety due to an unwanted pregnancy is injury enough
Did You Know?
28 September is International Safe Abortion Day, where repro rights activists all over the world unite to further our mission of leaving no body without access to safe, affordable abortion care.
Stay tuned, because we’ve got something up our sleeves... 🚺
Dr. Subatra said it is a “fallacy” that abortion pills are not needed.
“We are only blocking access to gold standard health care,” she said, by “creating an atmosphere” where women have to seek out unsafe services by purchasing black market pills online.
It is essential for girls and women to be able to access safe and affordable abortion services because it significantly affects their quality of life.
However, many women still have difficulty accessing legal abortion services due to stigma and lack of information.
Chances are you already know someone who had an abortion (ask ur grandparents generation, ur parents and ur peers).
Women seek out abortions for various reasons, regardless if it is legal or not. It is imperative that the options are safe, rights based & empower women to choose.
RRAAM believes that women themselves need to be the main decision makers as to when a pregnancy is injurious to their mental health, as each woman knows her unique mental health needs and social circumstances.
Women and children are some of the most vulnerable communities to domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Postinor bukanlah pil perancang tetapi pil kecemasan (plan B) utk elak pregnancy. Jika digunakan kerap kali nanti berkurangan kesan pil itu.

Abortions are actually permissible in Malaysia up to 22 weeks, since 1989 (when amendments were made to our colonial inherited law)
Although the Ministry of Health has a guideline for termination of pregnancy, many barriers remain including stigma and a lack of willingness of doctors to provide the service. We need to keep pushing and speaking up for all women in Malaysia

The continuance of any pregnancy would cause increased risk to the mother's life greater that if it was safely terminated. (Maternal mortality ratio of 30/100,000 in Malaysia). If a women does not want to take that risk, it is permissible by Malaysian law to have a safe abortion
Many think it's a lifestyle choice and a social issue. Unfortunately it's not. The ability of a woman or girl to control her pregnancy choices affects her schooling, education opportunities, career choices, financial security and family development.
