Donald Richardson of Jamestown, RI worked on the ferry before the Newport bridge was built. He became one of RITBA's first employees, and at 90 still works part time as a toll collector. Yesterday, he traveled back to Normandy in honor of D-Day

ALERT: Due to high winds, there are increased vehicle restrictions on the Newport Pell & Jamestown Bridges. Only automobiles, pickup trucks, flatbed trailers, & commercial buses are permitted to cross. All other vehicles are prohibited from travel across the bridges.

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Bridge. Donald Richardson, one of RITBA’s first employees, cuts the ribbon at the dedication today at the toll plaza. Donald is 90, and still currently works part time at RITBA.

Today marks the retirement of a long term RITBA employee, Louis Conti. Louis began as a toll collector at the Mount Hope Bridge in 1975, and then moved over to the Newport Pell Bridge. He has served the public for 45 years and we wish him the best in his retirement!

Today we were lucky enough to hear the stories from some of the original workers who helped build the Newport Pell Bridge. We thank them and want to remember all of the workers, especially the ones who lost their lives helping to build this iconic structure.
